<ocb> anyone tested kernel 5.16? getting some serious networking issues inside a vm
<ocb> rebooting with 5.10 everything works perfectly
<SiFuh> Have but not in a vm
<SiFuh> I ended up with 5.15 though. I haven't fuilly configured the 5.16 kernel yet, still working on a modular kernel
<ocb> i will go and give 5.15 a try and see if anything changes. issues include delayed connections, ~95% packet loss on simple ping, wrong reporting of milliseconds, dns not going through. all issues are network related. going to build 5.15 and see
<SiFuh> To be clear. 5.15.x was a pain in the arse to build
<ocb> thanks
<ocb> why so?
<SiFuh> Just nothing wanted to work the way I wanted it
<SiFuh> Took me about 2 weeks to get arround the issues
<ocb> agh... 2 weeks
<SiFuh> I can give you my 5.15.x config. I always make a kernel that can have maximum modules

<SiFuh> You can strip it down to your liking
<ocb> sure, it would be nice to look through it, thanks
<SiFuh> 2 weeks. I don't work on it 24/7 I just look and compile when I have time.

<SiFuh> Intel 64 bit
<farkuhar> SiFuh: thanks for the recommendation of a git driver for our repositories. it does seem to download much faster than httpup.
<farkuhar> In order to continue supporting downloads by httpup, though, I needed to generate a httpup-repgen-ignore file. Otherwise the httpup command attempts to access the ".git" directory and gets "404 Forbidden" errors.
<SiFuh> farkuhar: I changed to git (but kept the httpup as well) because I would update the repo and by using the httpup I noticed it wouldn't download recently updated stuff for a short while
<SiFuh> Updating 1 or 2 ports was okay. Update 20 ports and there seemed to be a timeout session
<SiFuh> farkuhar: yeah the ignore file is normal
<SiFuh> I changed to git because I didn't like updating my repo and then waiting 30 minutes to download the updates
<ocb> thanks for the upload!
<SiFuh> ocb: It is not perfect. THe kernel updates faster than I can keep up with
<SiFuh> You might want to change the CPU to Generic-X86-64. I set mine at Core 2/newer Xeon
<farkuhar> jaeger: if you get time, do you mind changing the url for my repo? I followed SiFuh's suggestion and migrated to a server that supports git. https://git.sdf.org/jmq/cruxports/raw/branch/master/jmq.httpup
<SiFuh> farkuhar: better you keep it is as httpup and then include the git in your repo as a secondary option. Git in CRUX is not part of the core system
<SiFuh> I kept it as httpup to make it compatible to the core CRUX system. I just provided an alternative on the side for people like us.
<SiFuh> In fact it would be a nice option to allow alternatives :-) <-- jaeger httpup, rsync and git
<farkuhar> SiFuh: both httpup and git are supported by the server I migrated to, once I figured out the correct globs to put in httpup-repgen-ignore. I was actually using your repo as a reference when I made the migration.
