I called a friend who said that you should deprogram the mute back to PVR and then program it back. I said I will not do that. In the end I hard reset the PVR and the sound came back. Hahaha

zorz: Generally
<farkuhar>
This morning I tried to use Vernier calipers as a substitute for a jeweler's wrench, but I couldn't get a firm enough grip on the indentations of the wristwatch bezel. Lesson learned: use the right tool for the job. But if replacing a watch battery is something you do only every X years, what value of X makes it more cost-effective to pay someone else, rather than cluttering your toolbox with a jeweler's wrench?
<SiFuh>
WTF? Vernier Calipers are used for measuring not for opening watches
<zorz>
buy a new watch!
<zorz>
heh
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: I know what their primary purpose is. But this particular model was shaped in a way that allowed spanning the diameter between indentations on the bezel. So I tried to use them in an off-label manner, leading to the failure mode indicated above.
<zorz>
SiFuh: shall i set up bind ? or no need?
<SiFuh>
I'd never use a precision measuring tool to open anything
<farkuhar>
It's what I had on hand. Generally I prefer to use what I have, before going out to buy something specially designed for the task.
<SiFuh>
I'd rather just go to the Jewler's shop and change the battery their
<SiFuh>
Or use a pair of circlip removers to rotate the base
<farkuhar>
The jeweler's shop is what I think I'll have to do, eventually. But it doesn't hurt to try MacGuyvering a different solution first.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Sure, not with a precision measuring device.
<SiFuh>
Needle-nose pliers could work
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: it's not as if I've lately been using the calipers for their primary purpose. They've been sitting in the tool drawer gathering dust for at least ten years.
<SiFuh>
And even there are many wrong tools for the job you can try. But a mearsuring device is a huge no no.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: I used mine two days ago
<SiFuh>
I doubt a month passes by without me using them
<farkuhar>
speaking of toolboxes, I noticed that emmett1 posted an update to crux-musl/rust. Interestingly, he does _not_ apply the 0003-compiler-change-LLVM-targets patch. That must be the key to getting a successful build of firefox.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/l4GVz7.jpg Mine sit right next to my computer with arms reach. That's how often I use them. I even have a second on in the tool box and a micrometer in the store room
<farkuhar>
Distance is not the quantity I'm really interested in measuring with that much precision these days. Fluid volume is more consequential, if the letter I got from the municipal water utility is something I should worry about.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: How much are they charging you for?
<farkuhar>
Apparently, the water usage in the second quarter of 2024 (April through June) was 500% higher than in the first quarter.
<SiFuh>
You needs to send someone to investigate
<SiFuh>
500% sounds like a water leak.
<SiFuh>
Do you have easy access water meters?
<farkuhar>
What they forgot to take into account is that the first quarter usage was abnormally low. April through June was merely a return to the usual range.
<SiFuh>
Or do you need to be in the batcave under your street to look at them?
<SiFuh>
The Wet Water Bandits, are not far from your state.
<farkuhar>
I have a few hypotheses as to why we had such low usage January through March. Maybe the cold weather prevented the clothes from getting too sweaty, and we didn't need to do laundry or take showers as frequently as we do now.
<farkuhar>
Also, there was less working from home during January, February and March. Being at the office, we wouldn't be flushing the toilets or drawing water from the tap during the day.
<SiFuh>
Don't forget the 9 water beds you have
<SiFuh>
And your olympic sized swimming pool out the back.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: 9 is next to 0 on the keyboard. Did you mean to say the 0 water beds I have?

lavaball has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<farkuhar>
Here's an interesting discrepancy: emmett1's latest rust port has a hard dependency on clang and no mention of compiler-rt. The opt/rust port has a hard dependency on compiler-rt and a soft dependency on clang. But when separating llvm-project into its different components for his latest crux-musl updates, emmett1 only retained llvm and clang, omitting compiler-rt.
<zorz>
so SiFuh sleep well no conflict in Taiwan for the near future.
<farkuhar>
I'm still not fully clear on the role that compiler-rt plays in this bloated toolchain. But if rust can be built without it, then the fact that the official port lists compiler-rt as a hard dependency, seems to go against the principle that beerman espoused in his 19 July reply to the CRUX mailing list ("its a design choice to try and make all the things not needed for a basic install optional.")
<farkuhar>
Maybe rust needs at least ONE from the set {clang,compiler-rt}, but not both. emmett1 chose to depend on clang, whereas beerman chose to depend on compiler-rt. I wonder whether one choice is better than the other, in terms of sharing the same rust-dependent ports between glibc and musl platforms.
<zorz>
farkuhar: you do not need compiler-rt to build rust
ppetrov^ has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<zorz>
compiler-rt was designed as a replacement for some parts of libgcc, offering a more permissive license among other advantages. Depending on how everything is set up, there might be cases where compiler-rt is preferred over libgcc.
<zorz>
When is it needed?
<zorz>
Embedded targets: When you're building Rust projects for embedded targets that don't have their own standard library implementation, you'll typically need compiler-rt.
<farkuhar>
zorz: thanks for confirming. I'm reading opt/rust/Pkgfile, though, and it says "Depends on: compiler-rt", which is part of the reason for my confusion.
<zorz>
i use rust-bin, only for run-mailcap-rs and this libsrvg of firefox. i do not think i have something else.
<zorz>
farkuhar: it will be nice to have firefox-esr-bin
<zorz>
farkuhar: and last Sanitizers: If you're using sanitizers (like AddressSanitizer or UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer) to help detect bugs in your Rust code, you'll likely need the corresponding runtime support provided by compiler-rt.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: thanks for the tip about needle-nose pliers. I didn't have any pliers that open wide enough, but I found an adjustable wire stripper that does open wide enough, and its jaws fit nicely into the indentations of the watch bezel.
<farkuhar>
So after removing the bezel, apparently I need to buy a battery that's compatible with SR920SW.
<SiFuh>
Strange
<SiFuh>
What brand/model is this watch that uses such old style batteries?
<farkuhar>
Guess
<SiFuh>
Seiko or Timex
<SiFuh>
Must be analog since the battery is so small
<SiFuh>
Voltage: 1.55v HAHAHA damn
<farkuhar>
No, the brand is literally "Guess". As for the model, I don't know which number on the bezel is relevant, but you're right, it's an analog model.
<farkuhar>
I can't remember when the battery died, but I think it was within the past year. So the original battery provided at least 30 months of life, not counting the time it was sitting in the dealer's inventory before I opened the package.
<SiFuh>
My Casio watches usually around 5 years to replace the battery but they are digital.
<SiFuh>
My wife's Casio F-91W has had one replacement battery since I bought it. About 4 years
<SiFuh>
My digital watch is the Casio W-741 from the 90's
<SiFuh>
<SiFuh>
Casio DW-240 <-- I am looking for this model from the 80's but the prices are insane
<farkuhar>
"0 or 24 at the top and 12 at the bottom" is exactly what the picture I'm viewing looks like. Are we looking at the same model (with "Guess ... powered by the sun" on the watch face)?
<SiFuh>
Suppose the green markings could be only for the minutes
<SiFuh>
And the even numbered hours.
<farkuhar>
Okay, at least we're looking at the same model. But why would they divide up the circumference into 24 hour markings, if they were intending to keep the hour hand moving at a rate of two revolutions per day?
<farkuhar>
The image you just sent, I would read it as 20:10.
<SiFuh>
For those who can't read 24 hour time and learning. There are 12 hour watches out there with 24 hour markings
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Yeah me too
<SiFuh>
I wonder why they say it is a ladies watch.
<SiFuh>
And it is a Vegan Watch
<SiFuh>
lavaball might end up eating it when he is hungry
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: 24 hour watches are just so much cooler and besides, dividing the day and the night into 12 hours is just dumb since doesn't really work that well in the Northern and Southern poles.
<farkuhar>
Maybe you'll have to buy it to find out whether it tells 24-hour time. For RM664, it's not a bad deal.
<SiFuh>

tomorrow SiFuh i will need your help to do something with crux dns.
<SiFuh>
If I was given a 911 for free, I'd sell it and by a 456 GT Ferrari
<SiFuh>
by/buy
<zorz>
i go rt.com, does not open. i need to go to browser and set next dns buy default
<SiFuh>
I don't use CRUX
<zorz>
yes but before,,,, you know the drill
<SiFuh>
No I use OpenBSD
<SiFuh>
CRUX is just a repo server
<zorz>
ook man..... where i change the default server.
<zorz>
?
<zorz>
bind is to much for me
<zorz>
i just need ancrypted dns
<SiFuh>
Let me install lynx on crux
<zorz>
take your time
<zorz>
lynx is nice
<SiFuh>
No GUI in CRUX
<zorz>
should be like that
<SiFuh>
It's a repo server only.
<SiFuh>
I use it for building ports slowly.........
<zorz>
only your ports,,, or you have more?
<SiFuh>
Okay rt.com works from CRUX
<SiFuh>
nameserver 192.168.88.1
<SiFuh>
nameserver 2001:e68::b:68
<SiFuh>
that is resolv.conf
<SiFuh>
So I am using the router on that system
<SiFuh>
I am using routeros on a mikrotik
<zorz>
in mine nope. i just use the companies rooter
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: I think the biggest weakness with Zig, as well as almost every other modern programming language, is the lack of platform support. They all only care about Linux, Windows, and Mac, the BSDs port them over to their OS's, and the only reason why they can port so well is exactly because of LLVM.
<zorz>
mine is this nameserver 192.168.1.1
<zorz>
nameserver fe80::1%wlp4s0
<zorz>
remiliascarlet: yes... i read a little bit some forums of them today, and they moving llvm indepedent.
<SiFuh>
I don't think I can help you with CRUX
<zorz>
zig also has many similarities with c
<SiFuh>
In OpenBSD can
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh: Everyone hates Kamala. Imagine the next G7: "so how are you gonna screw up the population next?" Kamala: "AHAHAHAHAHA!!"
<zorz>
SiFuh: ok thanks man anyway
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: I already know, read what I just said.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: I told lavaball what a friend said. No one can beat Trump. So just put Kamala in and destroy her. When Trump is in, destroy the economy.
<lavaball>
rather tell me where the bitches are hiding
<lavaball>
!
<SiFuh>
zorz: remiliascarlet means to say RTFI
<SiFuh>
Hahaha
<remiliascarlet>
I actually used Zig between 0.10.1 and 0.12.0-dev, and then Andrew Kelley cancelled me, and dropped Zig for good.
<SiFuh>
zorz: Australia tried to put tax on tips
<zorz>
remiliascarlet: only zig-13 only to compile riverwm and i am impressed
<zorz>
sorry ncdu aswell
<SiFuh>
I told everyone DO NOT DO IT. If they ask where is your tips. You say "I use them to pay for people who have no money"
<zorz>
the new ncdu comes in zig
<SiFuh>
Tax department was so angry, they just couldn't win
<zorz>
SiFuh: Australians are so gay!
<SiFuh>
I stopped paying tax back in 2007 on income
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: Your mom comes in Zig.
<zorz>
How you can tax the smile of a person?
<SiFuh>
Told the tax department to fuck off wuite sternly
<SiFuh>
zorz: GST dude is the same
<zorz>
remiliascarlet: because you argue with them does not mean zig is not good
<SiFuh>
You provide goods and service and they tax you
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: I didn't say Zig is not good.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Anything zorz sells is shit.
<SiFuh>
That's a fact
<SiFuh>
He's quite childish
<zorz>
SiFuh: i dont sell anything
<remiliascarlet>
I said I lost interest because of the weird attitude of the BDFL.
<zorz>
remiliascarlet: ok correct.
<SiFuh>
zorz: You are selling your crap all the time.
<zorz>
SiFuh: fuck off
<zorz>
kamala will win
<zorz>
:P
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: "kamala will win" Way to prove SiFuh right.
<SiFuh>
I've been using computers longer than you and you try to offload new editors, new taks bars, new window managers. Fuck off dude. I ain't changin
<SiFuh>
I like what I have. It fucking works
<SiFuh>
I don't need no editor based on another editor to edit shit
<zorz>
SiFuh: relax!
<remiliascarlet>
I'll just continue to use C, so I can spite all these religious "memory safety" idiots.
<zorz>
:)
<SiFuh>
And yes, I did look at your link about i13 and i14 and I laughed but then I thought of dlcusa
<SiFuh>
dlcusa: ^
<SiFuh>
C is fine. I like C. It works
<remiliascarlet>
Truth.
<zorz>
SiFuh: this cpu dont work most probably of spyware blobs
<SiFuh>
Tell it to dlcusa not me
<zorz>
C i agree
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: What CPU can't run C?
<SiFuh>
He has a crashing issue. It might be the link you sent
<zorz>
no no no
<zorz>
intel 13th and 14th
<zorz>
have issues
<SiFuh>
I said that
<zorz>
that cant be fixed
<remiliascarlet>
Fix it then!
<zorz>
myself no intel, years now
<remiliascarlet>
Or just use an older CPU.
<SiFuh>
zorz: It can't be fixed if it crashes one time. It will crash forever even with the patch
<zorz>
only an abandoned core duo
<zorz>
yes
<SiFuh>
I'd scrap that CPU and contact Intel and say send me a new one and the patch
<zorz>
SiFuh: but why dlcusa problem with that?
<SiFuh>
I think he has a CPU issue with his second hand PC he received
<SiFuh>
It was originally used for gaming
<SiFuh>
So I thought, it might be the issue you sent in a link
<zorz>
not at alll
<SiFuh>
Hmm maybe it is farkuhar. But I am sure it was dlcusa
<zorz>
i just read it in twitter, nostr i dont remmber where
<remiliascarlet>
With the exception of my desktop PC (a 2020 AMD), PowerBook G4 (2004 PowerPC), and some ThinkPads (2008 Core 2 Duo or 2006 Pentium M), pretty much all my computers use either a 4th generation or 6th generation Intel CPU, and unless I can somehow get my hands on a RISC-V computer, I see no reason to get anything newer.
<zorz>
in the city flat is like this.... dont live there summer time
<SiFuh>
I built a Tile shield near her bed to keep the floor cold for her
<zorz>
summer time i move to village
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh: "She doesn't drink much water." Depends on what you give her. My cat for example needs to drink lots of water if given kibble, but doesn't drink much if given wet food or raw meat for example.
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh: "She won't eat anything unless it comes from an animal" Oh, so you mean a carnivore animal won't eat anything that's not an animal product? What a shock!
<SiFuh>
zorz: They don't work. Stop wasting my time
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: She eats the wife's father's plants and the shoes
<zorz>
fix your pc
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: Interesting, "a.uguu.se" can't be accessed, but "f.uguu.se" works fine.
<SiFuh>
I keep my cowboy boots in the house
<SiFuh>
She licks them like Biden licks ice cream
<zorz>
remiliascarlet: thank you for telling me.
<SiFuh>
Also even though I see her the least she always prefers me over everyone else.
<SiFuh>
Wife gets jealous. "Hey! I feed you. I hug you. I carry you. Why you always next to him?"
<SiFuh>
I was walking and kicked her by accident. She flew about 10 metres. HAHA it was so bad. She then cowered and ran away screaming at me. I had to comfort her. Yet she still loves me the most.
<SiFuh>
Weird dog
<SiFuh>
I haven't trained her to walk around human yet so she often gets stepped on. Then cries and limps around
<SiFuh>
I am thinking it is because of the first car trip when she was in the box and full of fleas and ticks. I was petting her to calm her down. I think that was the moment she knew I was her protector.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Oh yeah. Any knife shops there?
<remiliascarlet>
There is where?
<SiFuh>
Tokyo
<remiliascarlet>
No idea.
<SiFuh>
processed meat infused with beef tallow <--
<SiFuh>
So I guess I need to bring my own knives to Tokyo.
<zorz>
SiFuh: yes SiFuh make arrangments with the flight company
<zorz>
buy a knife from Tokyo!
<remiliascarlet>
They always add extra fat o wagyu after killing.
<remiliascarlet>
The fucking T key is broken again...
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh: Make sure you have them in your large luggage.
<remiliascarlet>
Somebody I know even managed to smuggle a riffle into Japan by simply putting it in a large luggage, hidden inbetween clothes.
<remiliascarlet>
Since you arrive at Narita, make sure your wife has that luggage, they are more likely to inspect for gold smugglers if you're a man than if you were a woman.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Are you schooling the pro at import export?
<remiliascarlet>
Just making sure.
<SiFuh>
Hehe
<SiFuh>
You should hear my stories. What I illegaly crossed borders with to sell
<SiFuh>
Maybe you can ask me in Japan.
<SiFuh>
I should be dead. Death penalty what I did
<SiFuh>
All I wanted to know is if there were knife shops so I can buy there
<SiFuh>
If not, I bring mine to Japan
<remiliascarlet>
I knew a Soviet defector who would travel back to the Soviet Union once every 2 weeks to sell all sorts of western items there.
<remiliascarlet>
They were facing famine, so he went there to sell bananas.
<SiFuh>
As I said. If you knew what I brought across borders. I should have the death penalty
<SiFuh>
I tell you a good one here. Not an illegal one. Human trafficking is illegal in Malaysia. I was in Thailand and a friend called me to say he met a girl who was trafficked to be a sex slave in Singapore. He said, I can get her to Malaysia. But she is from Thailand. Can you help?
<remiliascarlet>
Well, search engines are very unhelpful as usual. I looked up for a knife speciality store in Tokyo, and got a list of hotel and spa's in a red light district.
<SiFuh>
Sure. We crossed the border illegally dressed as Muslim women by boat. To get her back home to her parents.
<SiFuh>
We didn't deliver her direct to the parents. We got her across the border and I took her to the train station where she could buy a ticket home.
<SiFuh>
I have never seen her since but my friends said she arrived safely and stayed in contact for about 6 months.
<SiFuh>
My job was to take her back to Thailand and I did that.
<SiFuh>
But I have bigger better and more dangerous stories than that
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Shame you don't drink beer
<SiFuh>
Do bars sell other drinks than beer there? Like coffee?
<SiFuh>
Because I will have no issues with you having a drink of coffee or whatever while I have beer
<SiFuh>
I'd probably have like 15 beers though. HAHAHAHAHAH
<remiliascarlet>
Yes, beer, coffee, tea, sake, wine, softdrinks... Water is free.
<SiFuh>
I think I had 10 or 11 when I met farkuhar
<SiFuh>
Cool!
<SiFuh>
Maybe a shot of Sake.
<SiFuh>
will be nice
<SiFuh>
But no more.
<SiFuh>
I need to walk back to the hotel
<SiFuh>
HAHAHA
<SiFuh>
I can imagine the conversation "You are drunk? remiliascarlet made you drunk?" "Huh, you moron. I drink all the time."
<SiFuh>
Hahaha
<SiFuh>
You can ask farkuhar how I handle beer.
<remiliascarlet>
Depending on how far it is from your hotel, you can probably just return by railway.
<SiFuh>
I drink it slow and enjoy like some people drink coffee and smoke
<SiFuh>
I don't know. Besides, if I can walk with a beer, and not get arrested. I will enjoy walking up to 15km alone
<SiFuh>
Do you have those 7/11 things there as well?
<SiFuh>
I have a Thai friend. Use to work for Yakuza. After his wife divorced him. He moved back to Japan.
<remiliascarlet>
7/11 is absolutely everywhere!
<SiFuh>
I wish can find him.
<SiFuh>
Fucking 7/11
<SiFuh>
They sell beer yes?
<remiliascarlet>
And not sure why you'd be arrested for walking with a beer.
<remiliascarlet>
Yes.
<SiFuh>
Cool
<SiFuh>
I tell you a short story
<SiFuh>
My friend Guy believes me but my other friend doesn't believe that I live in Asia. So Guy (Pronounce Gee or Gi) decided to meet me there. We went walking with his evil wife creature
<SiFuh>
Eventually she stopped at a park and he and I continued walking. I said "I need a beer" He and I walked into the back alleys to find a beer shop.
<SiFuh>
I found Hacker's Beer. We both sat out the front of the shop on the foot path and talked and then he said he better get back to the evil queen bitch
<SiFuh>
I said "Hold on. Lets get more beer" He said "No we can't drink in public"
<SiFuh>
I replied "Australia is a Christian country. Beer is legal and if you are seen on the streets with it you will be arrested right?" He said yes. I said "Malaysia is a Muslim country, where alcohol is illegal for Muslims but I can drink in public"
<SiFuh>
So we bought beer and went on our way.
<remiliascarlet>
In Japan, alcohol is legal, and you can drink it in public.
<SiFuh>
Good
<SiFuh>
Khazhakstan it is not.
<SiFuh>
But I did. Fuck you retards
ppetrov^ has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<SiFuh>
I drink when I want too
<remiliascarlet>
You do get dirty looks from others if you walk and drink though, but that goes with anything edible or drinkable.
<SiFuh>
My Khazah friend was surprised Kyrgyzstan cinema sells beer
<SiFuh>
I care zero
<SiFuh>
I really care zero
<SiFuh>
I get that here too
<SiFuh>
I still do
<SiFuh>
I give no fucking interest in their looks
<SiFuh>
If I want a beer, I will find it and I will get it
<SiFuh>
If others dislike it then fuck them. That's all I can say about my mind
<remiliascarlet>
I do walk while drinking water, because it's fucking summer!
<SiFuh>
Don't forget I live in a Muslim country and drink all the time.
<SiFuh>
Our 4x4 team often has new guys that try to insult me
<remiliascarlet>
I mean, you don't get dirty looks for walking while drinking beer, but rather for walking while eating and/or drinking.
<SiFuh>
Then I winch them out
<SiFuh>
So I get respect instantly
<SiFuh>
Winch is when they are stuck and need a guy with a rope to pull them out.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: The camping (NOT 4x4 guys) are KKM that is the vaccine pushers
<SiFuh>
I go with them
<remiliascarlet>
Once some smartphone zombie said "you know that walking while drinking is rude, right?", and I replied "you know that walking while using a smartphone is rude, right?", and they shut up.
<SiFuh>
I told them many times to shove that needle up thei rectum. I ain't buying your bullshit.
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Similar today with the wife.
<SiFuh>
She says something about the dog. I said I don't care, it is your dog. Everytime I spoke she'd reply "I don't care" then I said. "God cares. You are using a phone. Just enjoy life" she then shoves the phone away and says "I don't care" I said. "You know you'd be sick or dead if it wasn't for me? I saved your life. That means you are dead if it wasn't for me. You need to serve me"
<SiFuh>
Then she said "I don't care" I said "Go RTFB" Hahaha
<SiFuh>
She stopped her shit very fast
<SiFuh>
I tell her what she can and can't do. I am very nice about it. I let her have lots of freedom.
<SiFuh>
But she needs to understand. If it wasn't for me, she'd have no life.
<SiFuh>
She was one of those who said she MUST get injected
<SiFuh>
Now her family is dropping like flies and she is the only healthy one left
<SiFuh>
Good thing she listened to me
<SiFuh>
I told her I'd leave if she got injected
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Her entire staff and boss were injected
<SiFuh>
The only one apart from her is the Bosses' son. He is austistic and refused
<SiFuh>
The boss says "I don't understand why anyone wouldn't take it"
<SiFuh>
I said to the wife "you still have a job. He can't fire you because the son refuses as well" She replies "Oh yeah."
<SiFuh>
Hehehe
<SiFuh>
The guys I go camping with are KKM as I said above. I always tell them that vaccines are stupid. No logic behind any of them. I will never take them." I am happy to camp with them because next lockdown, they will know me, my mind, and because we are friends, I will have a say and they will probably back off and let me free
<SiFuh>
I've been anti vaccine since my last shots in 2001. Nothing to do with conspiracy, but actually to do with medical facts.
<SiFuh>
Even my own doctor was like "Something is wrong."
