<zmatt>
u-boot overlays is just a different mechanism used to apply overlays (hence how to enable them to be applied), though the overlays themselves still work the same
<zmatt>
they're usually not needed though, by default cape-universal is enabled which enables most peripherals and allow you to dynamically change the mode of pins between the functions available on it
<zmatt>
just to check, are you booting from sd card or eMMC?
<zmatt>
beware that if you're booting from SD card then the presence of an old system on eMMC can cause problems: its bootloader will get used in preference to the one on SD card, and an old bootloader may not be able to correctly interpreted a new system's /boot/uEnv.txt which can cause all sorts of weird device tree problems
<k-man>
zmatt: booting from sd card
<k-man>
zmatt: how do i check if the built in emmc has an old system on it?
<zmatt>
k-man: I mean, if you don't care about the contents of eMMC just wipe it: sudo blkdiscard /dev/mmcblk1
<zmatt>
or reflash eMMC with your bullseye image instead of booting from sd card
<k-man>
zmatt: thanks

Hi been trying to get brcmfmac drivers working in custom yocto image for beaglebone ai past two weeks
<AKN>
It was working for the same configuration a couple of months ago, now it does even load the firmware files.
<AKN>
Tried installing latest as well as the old firmware files, no luck.
<AKN>
Came across ti-linux-kernel-dev repo had patches for brcmfmac kindly if there is way implement this on yocto point to the right place. Thank you.

I think there's a #yocto irc channel? you may want to try asking there how to apply kernel patches
<k-man>
zmatt: iirc spi0 requires some special configuration as you have to disable hdmi to enable spi0 on the BBB
<zmatt>
k-man: hdmi audio specifically. you can disable hdmi (entirely or just audio) in /boot/uEnv.txt
<k-man>
zmatt: can you point me to more general info on managing the hardware via uEnv.txt please?
<k-man>
i'm a bit lost and seem to be stuck between the old way and the new way
<zmatt>
uncomment the line disable_uboot_overlay_video=1 to disable hdmi entirely
<k-man>
thanks

mckoan: secure boot is not available on the BBB or any other device that uses the "general-purpose" version of these SoCs
<zmatt>
TI's version of secure boot requires that your keys get burned into efuse during manufacturing by TI
<zmatt>
k-man: bus and chip select
<zmatt>
(in that order)
<mckoan>
zmatt: thanks. I know that secure boot requires that your keys get burned into efuse
<mckoan>
zmatt: I need to know where get the details from ?
<k-man>
zmatt: thank you. you are a font of knowledge! much appreciated

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get the USB3 hub working with BB AI. I tried to plug it into USB-C socket of the board, it got detected, but disconnected in a second.
<azarubkin>
The hub itself is externally powered and connected to the BB AI with USB-B to USB-C cable, if that matters.
<azarubkin>
The hub chip is a Microchip USB5806. The board is an evaluation board from Microchip: EVB-USB5806.
<azarubkin>
Is it possible to make it work?
<azarubkin>
The BB AI itself is powered through pin headers.

zmatt: I'v got an answer from TI: This requires an NDA with TI and a different version of the am335x not installed on the BBB.

<zmatt>
that's what I said
<zmatt>
back when we inquired many years ago there was also a very hefty minimum order quantity
<zmatt>
it's really annoying, it wouldn't be difficult at all to provide basic boot security on general-purpose devices (with no need to efuse anything other than a random device key to be used by rom to bootstrap a dynamic root of trust)
