Is there anyone that can assist me in getting my beaglebone black connected to my computers shared wifi?

With Debian 10.3, I don't see dhclient running. What software is handling getting an IP address from the network's DHCP server?
<zmatt>
Guest448: connman
<zmatt>
(the bullseye (debian 11) testing images use systemd-networkd instead)
<Guest448>
zmatt, I've removed connman and am using /etc/network/interfaces (needed two addresses on one interface which I don't think connman supports last I knew), and it's working but I'm unclear about how the lease gets renewed when using interfaces file.
<zmatt>
dunno about the ancient ifupdown... it's barely a network manager, I'm quite sure it uses an external dhcp client
<Guest448>
I see that /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.leases is created but doesn't seem to be updating. I'm wondering if I need to run dhclient if I'm going to use the interfaces file perhaps.
<zmatt>
I don't like connman either, but I use systemd-networkd instead
<Guest448>
Does systemd-networkd support binding multiple addresses to an interface?
<zmatt>
yep, no problem
<zmatt>
you can add multiple [Address] sections
<zmatt>
I have some notes on converting a beagleboard.org debian buster image to use systemd-networkd: https://pastebin.com/3tjj3v3R
<Guest448>
Good to hear. Your notes look pretty straightforward. Is there an ETA on when testing becomes stable? (using testing in production makes managers nervous)
<zmatt>
for the bullseye images? no idea if there's an ETA for that, you'd need to ask jkridner or rcn-ee
<zmatt>
a new stable image has been rather long overdue
<zmatt>
(but I don't know what's the holdup)
<zmatt>
for what it's worth, we've been using systemd-networkd in production (on beaglebones) for more than 5 years now

zmatt On Buster?
<zmatt>
yep
<zmatt>
and even stretch before that I think
<Guest448>
I think we finally got rid of all our stretch instances (hope so)
<zmatt>
yep, ditto
<Guest448>
Although we use BBBs for all kinds of different one-off things such that I wouldn't be surprised to find one in a closet that still has stretch.
<zmatt>
hehe
<zmatt>
buried treasure!
<Guest448>
For production we use the BB Industrial, so just to keep ourselves well-versed with the BBs as much as possible, if we need any sort of computing device, we first reach for the BBB for stuff around our lab (i.e., non-production). But it does mean sometimes they get put to use in obscure jobs and locations and forgotten about. :-)
