<drewfustini>
mmind00: hello, I'm curious if you plan to be submitting a new revision of the " riscv: implement Zicbom-based CMO instructions + the t-head variant" series. I'm giving an update about Linux on RISC-V at Kernel Recipes on June 3rd and want to best reflect the current state of that effort.
<drewfustini>
palmer: with the svpbmt patch series in for-next, does that mean it is likely to be in your 5.19 PR?
<mmind00>
drewfustini: I plan on doing that (zicbom), and can try to do that even tomorrow (wednesday) :-)
<drewfustini>
great, it doesn't look like the series is too controversial, as it seem the terminology of cache blocks and cache lines in the binding was the main point of conservation
<drewfustini>
I'm happy to see the use of alternatives for t-head variants seems to be working out
<drewfustini>
I have to saw that back during Plumbers last year, the outlook did not look so good
<mmind00>
drewfustini: yeah, that ALTERNATIVE_2 thingy is "magical" :-)
<drewfustini>
do you feel like the CMO series could land in 5.20 ?
<drewfustini>
It looks like Samuel's "[PATCH 0/5] iommu/sun50i: Allwinner D1 support" is also needed though I don't see any recent movement on that
<drewfustini>
*also needed for mainline to boot on D1
<mmind00>
drewfustini: hmm good question ... palmer requested not using pre-coded instructions but instead having them in binutils ... the core zicbo* instructions are in 12.1, but the t-head ones are still pending ... so I guess the core CMO support _could_ be in 5.20, but the t-head additions will take longer

<mmind00>
hmm, I seem to have trouble understanding how binutils / gdb release work, that was the "gdb-12.1" release that has the commit in it, there doesn't seem to be a binutils release with it yet?

<smaeul>
D1 IOMMU is not needed for boot. It's only used by the display engine and video decoder. And even then it is optional, but it avoids needing to reserve giant chunks of memory for video buffers
<smaeul>
AFAIK the three blockers for D1 minimally booting on mainline are 1) CMOs, 2) determining how to represent the off-to-the-side PLIC extensions in the devicetree, and 3) supporting the rearranged MMIO (relative to earlier SoC generations) in the pinctrl driver
