<dsc__> morn
<mkfx> Wizzup: I think I've found a A33 tablet clone, is it a good idea to buy it?
<freemangordon> mkfx: I had to change the battery of my A33, and still have it booting with leste beowulf, was working quite nice
<freemangordon> however, we need proper kernel
<mkfx> do we use bsp?
<freemangordon> sorry, it was quite a while ago, bsp?
<freemangordon> ah, the kernel
<freemangordon> don.t remember, really
<freemangordon> I can try to dig what I have done back then
<Wizzup> mkfx: depends, the nice thing is that we know we can make it work, the downside is that each a33 tablet can be a bit different, esp in display timing
<Wizzup> we use mainline, not the bsp kernel, so you need to make your own dts
<freemangordon> Wizzup: but it is quite easy to get them from android
<Wizzup> sure, if you want to help
mkfx has left #maemo-leste [Error from remote client]
<Wizzup> just trying to say that it won't be 'flash and it will work'
<freemangordon> heh
<freemangordon> he got disconnected
<freemangordon> Wizzup: BTW, I see 6.12 in the repo
<freemangordon> uvos did something, but it is not finished (and don;t compile either)
<freemangordon> anyway, I am going to send patches for audio and motmdm serdev, I wonder if it is a good idea to try to have 6.12-omap
<freemangordon> but based on letux kernel with whatever needed on top
<freemangordon> unfortunately I don;t have a list of patches that are still needed, any idea?
<sicelo> i'm glad to see sre merged 2/4 of my bq patches. one more just needs rewriting the commit message, and the last one ... not sure, but i guess it's waiting on someone's ack
<freemangordon> yeah, good job :)
<freemangordon> I wonder why noone responded to both mails I sent
<freemangordon> christmas holidays perhaps
<dsc__> Wizzup: could we have my vkb repo separate from qt-maemo-plugin repo? because this is much easier in terms of development/debugging to have a standalone thing, also the input module would be standalone anyway even if moved to qmake @ maemo-plugin
<dsc__> im also not duplicating any functionality like enums/symbols because I include those from the hildon-input-method package
<Wizzup> freemangordon: not sure @ 6.12 and what uvos did or didn't do
<Wizzup> dsc__: would prefer it in the same repo but no strong opinions either way
<Wizzup> do you mean the debug cycle is faster because of the build time, or?
<Wizzup> I think it would be a separate .so regardless, even if it is in qt-maemo-platform repo
<dsc__> CMake integrates into the IDE
<freemangordon> I gues he tried, but gave-up because audio patches are not trivial to port
<Wizzup> oh, the qt-platform-maemo is qmake?
<dsc__> it is yeah
<freemangordon> however, I am talking about other patches, not mine
<Wizzup> dsc__: ok, like I said, no strong opinions, we can add additional pkgs to the meta pkgs
<Wizzup> freemangordon: ok
<dsc__> thanks!
<freemangordon> so, besides my patches and pvr ones, do we have a list of what else is needed?
<dsc__> Wizzup: so please make a repo @ maemo-leste, also CI, ill make a debian package
<dsc__> :P
* freemangordon reboots his d4 into 6.12.y
<Wizzup> freemangordon: maybe just check whatever we apply on our current kernel
<Wizzup> I think there's a bunch
<freemangordon> heh, thanks :p
<Wizzup> patches for droid3
<Wizzup> other dts changes
<freemangordon> I know I can check
<Wizzup> builddeb pkg changes
<tmlind> freemangordon: plain mainline v6.12 behaved on d4 for me when i tried for minimal features
<Wizzup> freemangordon: I can try to make a list later, in a few hours
<tmlind> best to set up various topic branches, easier to rebase them
<freemangordon> tmlind: I am trying openpvrsgx
<tmlind> freemangordon: ok we only have a few pm related patches on top
<freemangordon> tmlind: behaved == didn;t work properly?
<tmlind> worked as expected
<freemangordon> does not boot here with no sign of life :(
<tmlind> for uart, wlan, pm and basic devices
<tmlind> hmm what do you mean it does not boot? wrong command line or something?
<tmlind> or maybe the lcd? mine is in a rack, can't check the lcd..
<freemangordon> I replaced zImage and copied modules
<freemangordon> this is d4 that boots with 6.6
<tmlind> do you have uart access?
<freemangordon> I think yes :).
<freemangordon> lemme try to find the critter
_fab has quit [Quit: _fab]
<freemangordon> should I have to do anything special from USB uart?
<freemangordon> like special key combo or something?
<freemangordon> screen /dev/ttyUSB0 is enough, right?
<freemangordon> yeah, baudrate
<tmlind> you need to have a 3.3V ftdi usb uart cable, it's not usb uart, remuxed to uart
<tmlind> wiring info at http://muru.com/linux/d4/
<freemangordon> I have it
<tmlind> ah ok yeah then on your pc it will appear as a /dev/ttyUSB port
<freemangordon> [ 0.031768] printk: legacy bootconsole [omap8250] disabled
<freemangordon> that's the last
<freemangordon> can I get shell from there?
<tmlind> do you have console=ttyS2,115200 in the kernel cmdline?
<freemangordon> no idea, I just did make omap2plus_defconfig, lemme check
<tmlind> should show up on the kernel logs early on if you get any output
<gnarface> i think you also will have to uncomment a line in the /etc/inittab
<tmlind> ah yeah
<gnarface> (and set the right baud rate, as the examples are 9600
<gnarface> )
<freemangordon> ugh, why ubuntu18 does not auto-mount usb devices?!?
<gnarface> it doesn't? i couldn't get UT to stop doing it...
<freemangordon> oh, it is 20
<freemangordon> not 18
<freemangordon> I forgot I made one more dist-upgrade :)
<gnarface> only thing that comes to mind about that is to make sure you have udisks2 installed
<gnarface> that should at least add the ability, but the actual trigger to do it automatically might be a window manager level thing
<freemangordon> well, I did few dist-upgrade cycles from 14.4 to 20.4 a week or so ago
<freemangordon> not really sure what survived :)

<freemangordon> ok, that's crazy, normal flash drive is automounted, but uSD USB is not
<sicelo> maybe there's udev or some other rule, automounting /dev/sd*. the usd usb might be named something else, e.g. mmcblk*
<freemangordon> it appears as scsi disk

<gnarface> like i said, may have to also be edited though
<freemangordon> yes, I see, but it seems I nuked /boot while trying to fix automount not working
<gnarface> woops
<freemangordon> yeah
<freemangordon> well, better boot than / :)
<Wizzup> freemangordon: should that be O2 still?
<freemangordon> no idea
<Wizzup> also I think first console= is what is picked up (or last)
<freemangordon> that's in upstream omap2plus_defconfig
<Wizzup> also config cmdline is overriden by kexecboot/leste no
<freemangordon> in a minute will know
<freemangordon> perhaps
<freemangordon> where is that?
<Wizzup> user@maindroid:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
<Wizzup> console=tty0 fbcon=rotate:1 debug earlycon ro rootwait rootfstype=ext4 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 softlevel=charge-mode
<freemangordon> oh
<freemangordon> how to edit that?
<Wizzup> from /boot/boot/boot.cfg or something
<freemangordon> ok
<Wizzup> edit the .cfg file
<Wizzup> /boot/boot
<Wizzup> /boot/boot/zImage
<Wizzup> /boot/boot/boot.cfg
<Wizzup> /boot/boot/omap4-droid4-xt894.dtb

<Wizzup> freemangordon: no pvr then?
<freemangordon> with pvr
<freemangordon> I meant - without our patches
<freemangordon> from linux_openpvrsgx repo
<freemangordon> it is upstream + pvr
<freemangordon> should be
<Wizzup> ah,ok
<Wizzup> great, progress
<freemangordon> yeah, but can;t find why TS does not work
<Wizzup> I will be offline for ~3 hours from now, but then I have the weekend off
<Wizzup> hm... is it probed?
<freemangordon> yes
<freemangordon> but xinput does not list it
<freemangordon> but, there is entry in /dev/input
<Wizzup> maybe it's blacklisted
<Wizzup> oh yeah that's it
<freemangordon> hmm?
<Wizzup> uvos has this additional ts patch for make the ts buttons work
<Wizzup> so we blacklist the main ts
<freemangordon> ah
<freemangordon> ok
<freemangordon> will pull it
<freemangordon> later on
<freemangordon> or tomorrow
<Wizzup> we probably want to just pull all our patches later
<Wizzup> sure :)
<freemangordon> yeah, but I want h-d working
<freemangordon> and anyway, we want that patch I guess
<Wizzup> yeah, we do
<Wizzup> we can look at reducing patches later I think
<freemangordon> no, I want to do that now
<freemangordon> to make a kind of clean start
<freemangordon> to see what is obsolete etc
<freemangordon> and to send what we still need for upstreaming
<freemangordon> at least part of ot
<freemangordon> *it
<freemangordon> like I wonder if uvos sent cpcap charger ramping patch
<Wizzup> ok, I don't think the patches we carry are really a burden, but sure
<freemangordon> audio patches are
<mkf> is it a bad idea to buy u1 a1 sdcards?
<mkf> i seen it mentioned in the wiki, but are they that slow?
<arno11> mkf: it really depends how it performs with small blocks
<mkf> how to check?
<arno11> you can check online benchmarking before buying one
<mkf> since in theory A1 should work good for random I/O with small blocks
<arno11> maybe but in practice, that's another story
<mkf> hm, okay. thank you.
<gnarface> they don't all actually have small blocks in hardware, some of them have 4k blocks
<gnarface> they usually don't tell you the native block size on the package though i don't think, you have to do your research

<sicelo> or it's just a matter of waiting for krzk to find time to reply? Since sre replied to the other patches, I'm guessing he skipped this one because of this uncertainty :-/
