Wizzup: we have nudreds of networking options enabled in leste kernel config, are those really needed? It looks like we are building some router OS :)

<Wizzup>
freemangordon: a lot of this is DEFCONFIG stuff I think
<freemangordon>
it is, but do we want it?
<Wizzup>
I don't see the need to over optimise it personally
<Wizzup>
well, does it hurt having it enabled?
<freemangordon>
well, we don;t support omap2 devices, so why wasting kernel memory?
<Wizzup>
does it waste kernel memory?
<freemangordon>
also, what about if I squash all defconfig changes in one commit?
<freemangordon>
not sure, but I would guess
<Wizzup>
well, I documented why we had certain changes to the defconfi
<freemangordon>
as it enables parts in omap3
<freemangordon>
so, you want me to keep the commits, right?
<freemangordon>
because I can document in defconfig with comments
<freemangordon>
RN we have perhaps > 20 commits with defconfig changes
<freemangordon>
and they are not sequential and is hard to track all of them
<Wizzup>
I have go to RN, but I am fine with whatever you want, I am not unhappy with what we have now, but up to you
<Wizzup>
I generally tried to not -disable- things from the defconfig to add extra work
<Wizzup>
just enable what we need
<Wizzup>
but no strong opinion
<freemangordon>
ok, will keep arm11/omap2 enabled, but will put all the changes in one commit
<Wizzup>
ok, pls keep the descriptions as to why we need them
<Wizzup>
some were for wireguard, other ip routing, etc
<freemangordon>
from commit messages?
<Wizzup>
if any, yes
<freemangordon>
ok
<freemangordon>
because you said "documented"
<freemangordon>
tehre is no separate document, right?
<freemangordon>
Wizzup: when you're back, please replay to "Re: No cpufreq entries with omap2plus_defconfig since "cpufreq: dt-platdev: Support building as module" (commit 3b062a08)"

i would advise looking to see if you can get that USB port resoldered
<mkf>
previous n900 got much worse after i got it to repair shop, i fear this one fell to same problem
<sicelo>
ah, damn
<sicelo>
DIY :-)
<mkf>
=)
<mkf>
either way, any idea how to get it updated to pr1.3?
<mkf>
i suppose i could also install it manually, but now sure if things could go wrong with pr1.2 userspace and pr1.3 kernel
<sicelo>
you're on 1.2?
<sicelo>
best ask in #maemo. getting from 1.2 to 1.3 should be a simple upgrade via Application Manager, as long as your repositories are pointing to correct mirrors
<mkf>
okay, thank you. :)
