<dnkl> ericonr: do you use URL mode a lot?
novakane has joined #foot
<dnkl> ericonr: you have *a lot* of SHM pixmaps there... Yesterday I discovered an issue where entering and exiting URL mode would leave mappings for all the URL labels' sub-surfaces. For me, the manifistation was a crash - out of FDs. But if you've bumped the limit, it would instead look like excessive memory usage.
<dnkl> it's been fixed on master

<ericonr> dnkl: haven't built from master yet, but I can see memory increase clearly by starting URL mode and quitting it
<ericonr> idk if it accounts for the huge virtual memory usage, but it's a start

<emersion> eh, i just discovered https://codeberg.org/dnkl/sway
<emersion> i was wondering how hard it would be to switch sway to something like fcft
<emersion> maybe it wouldn't be too hard to re-implement pango font descriptions and markup on top of fcft
<Lord> what's the point ? getting bitmap font support ?
novakane has quit [Quit: WeeChat 3.2]
<emersion> from my PoV, the point is to not depend on pango
<emersion> pango (and glib stuff in general) is not very tasty when you look at it from the inside
<ifreund> amen, I'm currently in the middle of revising my xdg-decoration gtk patch and it's a pain
<ericonr> hm
<ericonr> I see a few g_object_unref calls in sway
<ericonr> emersion: is that what you'd like to remove?
<emersion> ifreund: oh you have such a patch? link? :)
<ericonr> and the whole glib machinery to go with it, which I agree is usually rather ugly
<emersion> ericonr: trying to remove all dependencies that use glib
<emersion> i routinely send patches to the deps i use
<ifreund> emersion: actually got a review on it last week :) https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/merge_requests/2191
<emersion> and it's just not happening for glib stuff
<ifreund> emersion: libinput depends on some wacom thing that uses glib :/
<ericonr> emersion: makes sense :/
<lanodan> Well at least wacom support in libinput is optionnal
