<hunter0one>
Hi, I just installed Crux and am trying to use labwc. I cant get gtk2 programs to work like gimp because they complain about not being able to open a display but dont even say the display and if I set DISPLAY=:0 then labwc will fail to launch
<hunter0one>
I already rebuilt mesa, gtk3 and others since I had wayland deps installed after those
<darfo>
I use sway not labwc but I have GDK_BACKEND=wayland in the environment and gimp works fine for me
<darfo>
I see the gimp I'm using uses gtk3 not gtk2.
<darfo>
oh, nm, I see it uses both gtk2 and gtk3 (not sure why/how that works). It's the one in the contrib repo.
<hunter0one>
GDK_BACKEND=wayland didnt do anything either
<hunter0one>
Its something to do with xwayland im pretty sure, afaik gimp still uses gtk2 so not sure why gtk3 is included, Gimp 3 is coming out soon and it will be gtk3 though

i was going to make a labwc port for lxqt but i haven't gotten around to it yet, it's on my agenda though "someday"
<r0ni>
oh they quit anyway
<jaeger>
Hadn't seen labwc before, looks pretty solid
<r0ni>
its openbox for wayland basically, works very well with lxqt2
<r0ni>
i plan to add at least a kwin session and labwc session for lxqt before long... i just need to iron out dep issues still on repo
<r0ni>
if there's any dep issues still, that is a task i've yet to check lol

<tim> @irc_libera.chat_hunter0one:crux.nu: you most likely need xwayland enabled with labwc or somewhere down that dependency chain
<r0ni>
i just looked at my script and there sure does need to have a -Dxwayland=enabled for it to work
<cruxbridge>
<tim> gtk2 has no native wayland backend
<cruxbridge>
<tim> as soon as gimp switched to gtk3 this should work without xwayland, but till then..

jaeger: Did you ever try my modular kernel in qemu? emmett1 says it doesn't work.
<jaeger>
I don't recall. Any details?

jaeger: none. I asked emmett1 to provide them but he hasn't yet.. Not sure if he will though.
<SiFuh>
And I am not going to even attempt to qemu build a kernel. I don't like qemu.
<jaeger>
Why not?
<SiFuh>
I don't like qemu.
<jaeger>
Why not? If you don't want to say, that's fine, just curious.
<SiFuh>
I just don't like it. Virtual Box is much easier to handle
<jaeger>
Fair enough
<SiFuh>
I have hopes that it will become better
<SiFuh>
But currently, I dislike it. Not wading through manuals to figure out what options I have available in geek talk that no layman can understand.
<jaeger>
I don't expect it will ever get more user-friendly but I guess that's why frontends like virt-manager exist
<SiFuh>
Yet retards can use phones to search the internet
<SiFuh>
Hahaha
<SiFuh>
I've nothing against qemu except it has a lack of user friendly support. I have faith in it though

<jloc0> I installed crux in VMware recently and the stock kernel config works fine there
<cruxbridge>
<jloc0> Tried the 3.8 beta and it fails before one can begin over lineups
<cruxbridge>
<jloc0> Lineups
<cruxbridge>
<jloc0> Omfg lib crypt (damn phone)
<jaeger>
SiFuh: ok, the 6.1.49 config seems to work fine, at least.
<jaeger>
there's a new test one for that issue
<SiFuh>
I see. Thanks

How is the kde-plasma-6 going for people? I've been thinking of trying it out.
<stratofall>
If anyone is using it. What brand of gpu are you using, AMD or Nvidia?
<jaeger>
It's working pretty well for me at this point. There were definitely some issues when it first came out but updates have solved the ones I saw
<jaeger>
I'm using it on both AMD and nvidia. Wayland on the AMD side, Xorg on the Nvidia side
<r0ni>
same, using kwin_wayland and all is well (though iv'e used elsewhere and it's all good there too)
<stratofall>
Cool, I have both brands cards as well. good to hear its working well on both.
<stratofall>
Can you see any difference between wayland and X11?
<stratofall>
Also, any good postfix mail server how to's you guys use?
<jaeger>
No real difference that I see, they both seem to work fine
<jaeger>
No specific howto here, I've just read the docs or referenced stuff over the years
