<DC-IRC> <Spec> Hey!
<DC-IRC> <Spec> Im really interested in getting an Armbian device so I can make a handheld, but I need to know that my game would work beforehand… would anyone be willing to help me out and test out a game for me?
<DC-IRC> <Spec> Pls dm me 😄

<DC-IRC> <Tenkawa> To get both a fully open-source board and inexpensive in todays day and age with what it sounds like you are considering enough power.... you don't really have any options
<DC-IRC> <TuxTheArchUser> I have.
<DC-IRC> <TuxTheArchUser> I can make my own SBC
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> Not a prayer
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> You make your own, assuming the expertise, and you're going to be 3-5x BOM cost of any commercial SBC
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> Ignoring your own time
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> You'll probably have the cost of a pine A64 just in the bare PCB
<DC-IRC> <TuxTheArchUser> Nop
<DC-IRC> <TuxTheArchUser> Making custom PCB is really cheap nowadays
<DC-IRC> <Robin> is it possible that compiling for the rock5 is broken? (never boots, I get initramfs error) doing this ` ./compile.sh BOARD=rock-5b BRANCH=edge RELEASE=jammy BUILD_MINIMAL=no BUILD_DESKTOP=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no COMPRESS_OUTPUTIMAGE=sha,img ` (I also get it on the legacy branch)
<DC-IRC> <Tenkawa> Do you have a console serial uart cable?
<DC-IRC> <Tenkawa> (so you can get that initramfs error to pastebin) or can screenshot it somehow
<DC-IRC> <Robin> The error is something with an UUID it cannot find, I'll see if I can take a screenshot, one second
<DC-IRC> <Tenkawa> What kind of media are you trying to boot on (microsd/usb/nvme)?
<DC-IRC> <Robin> EMMC

<DC-IRC> <Robin> Iy's just the default build I do, no userpatches nothing
<DC-IRC> <belugakerman> Yea sure i got a friend who is also working on making his own sbcs these days he’s making a allwinner H6 with referring to orangepi3’s documents seems pretty feasible 😄
<DC-IRC> <TuxTheArchUser> Wow, cool! Can I talk with him?
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> Never trust a Kerbal. 😉. (kidding, never seen this user before, just making a joke)
<DC-IRC> <Tonymac32> More seriously, I have an ESP32 microcontroller board I manufactured in China for sale on the Mouser catalog, and it's $35. I assure you this is an order of magnitude less complex and costly than an ARM Linux solution.

<mlu> as far as making an SBC goes: the chip pretty much determines what the software side looks like :)
<mlu> making your own custom board is relatively cheap, but it still won't be cheaper than buying one, so you really should have a good reason for going custom
<mlu> you'll likely need to do a 6-layer board
