<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> Hey im sorry if this dosent belong here. But anyone else get the problem where they cant type anything on the password column when they first boot up Armbian?
archetech has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<javabean> that may not be armbian specific. i sometimes encounter it in kde. kubuntu and garuda so it isn't really specific

<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> Hey so my theory is. The image file was corrupted and I'm not that smart.
<DC-IRC> <selimrecep> I think you could put a picture/screenshot of the "password column" thing
<DC-IRC> <selimrecep> I think you could put a picture/screenshot here of the "password column" thing
<DC-IRC> <Werner> To check image corruption from download: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/#how-to-check-download-integrity
<DC-IRC> <Werner> To reliably write image to sdcard use either USBimager or Balena Etcher.
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> I sadly don't have access to the SD card that I had the system on beacuse I just ended up reformating the SD card and my dad taking it from me.
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> I'll try my best to describe it.
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> So when you boot up Armbian and it does all it's code and things. It gets to a part where it asks for your username and then password. I wasn't able to type anything at the password part.
<DC-IRC> <Werner> This still does not answer the basic questions: which image, which board? which login shell (if desktop) or first-login command line?
<DC-IRC> <selimrecep> They probably mean terminal considering they wouldnt be able to visually type anything at password part but yeah additional details needed
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Might be hard to answer these questions as beginner. However without this very fundamental information for us this is hard or impossible to even get an idea where to start tracking this down.
<DC-IRC> <selimrecep> Rye I think you can next time you get your MicroSD Card and try it again and finally reproduce the issue take notes maybe issue will be more clear
<DC-IRC> <selimrecep> Rye I think when you can next time you get your MicroSD Card and try it again and finally reproduce the issue take notes maybe issue will be more clear
<DC-IRC> <IgorPec> usb / keyboard might not work well
<DC-IRC> <IgorPec> on some hardware
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Yeah that was my thought as well but if seems like only password is an issue and not username. Therefore keyboard must work
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Next thought was first run setup which got a PR recently but discarded this as well since the password part is unchanged.

<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> I was able to take a video of whats going on
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> I think I have a corrupted image file.
<DC-IRC> <jkent> @Ryecoonsy the password field does NOT show what you type, no asterisks, no spaces. thats by design
<DC-IRC> <jkent> thats true for all linux variants
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> I
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> I feel, stupid. Thank you
<DC-IRC> <jkent> Don't, its a beginner mistake :)
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> Hey if you dont mind one more question. Am I able to run rasberry os directly onto a non raspberry pi? Or do I need to go through extra hoops to get that to work?
<DC-IRC> <jkent> Well, a number of things won't work, any of the raspberry pi tools won't work. You'd also need to use a different kernel. I would say its not worth the effort.
<DC-IRC> <Ryecoonsy> Alright thank you so much
