<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Tkaisers criticism is helpful. ;-)
<Masterphi>
is USB3 support kinda broken on armbian? I'm unable to see partitions on a hard drive, but works fine on a usb2 port. (Orangepi Pi3 LTS)
<archetech>
you'll ignore his help too dont kid urself tony
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> His help is great info, just requires a whole working brain to apply changes, verify, test, make sure will be used going forward

Masterphi: try with an USB3 hub
<Masterphi>
stipa: tried, no luck :/
<stipa>
USB3 on my board sux too
<Masterphi>
I have a powered usb3 hub to make sure it's got enough juice
<stipa>
eventually you'll get used to stuff not working
<stipa>
i use USB3 in USB2 mode
<stipa>
i make sure there's no USB3 devices in it

<Masterphi>
it's just super lame. now i have an NVME drive with usb2 speeds. Even my network is faster than that :/
<stipa>
some drivers also don't work well, it's not just the board to blame completely
califax_ is now known as califax
<Masterphi>
I wonder if RaspberryPi has the same issue as OrangePi
<stipa>
it doesn't, people boot from USB SSDs just fine at USB3 speeds
<stipa>
now, about the stability and uptime of that i have no idea
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> bummer on usb3. i use a usb 3.0 SSD on my pineh64 (same SoC) on kernel 5.15.31. so hopefully its just device tree work that is all thats needed.

<lanefu> seriously does anybody wanna take a look at try this fixes / recommendations to armbian-harwardware-optmize etc? https://armbian.atlassian.net/browse/AR-1262
<ArmbianHelper>
AR-1262 [Bug] "armbian-hardware-monitor bad soctemp data" reported by Lane Jennison at 2022-07-13. Status: To Do
<ArmbianHelper>
^ [AR-1262] - Jira
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> the hard part is on a silver platter, just have to spend time understanding the related scripts / components
WinterNowPlease is now known as JackFrostComeHom
JackFrostComeHom is now known as mpmc
<stipa>
at least it's giving something
<stipa>
maybe it's the sensor itself sending bad data
<stipa>
not much you can do about that, if there's another working sensor in proximity it could be of interest
<stipa>
it could be the bad code too
<stipa>
oh, it's for all boards
<stipa>
yeah, then it's the code in many cases
<stipa>
you can do it lanefu, never give up
<stipa>
never surrender
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> well if you look at the code, it has different conditionals for the different SoCs in order to pull the right data
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> so it's about understanding the theory around the pattern of solving for that and perpetuating that
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> amd maybe even explaining the process for solving for it for the future
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Armbian needs someone who can maintain that who isnt me
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> giving up--- is giving up on the community's willing to participate and me doin it myself lol
<stipa>
i'm like barely in 1908's with my electronics skills
<stipa>
low level and linux on top of it is way above my cognitive skolls
<stipa>
skills*
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> hopefully you're not the only option lol
<stipa>
1980's*
<stipa>
yeah, there's bunch of guys in here that created the history
<stipa>
maybe they could help...
<c0rnelius>
seems like a lot of BS just to get a thermal reading
<stipa>
i guess the problem is the underlying hardware below that "driver"
<stipa>
it's different for every soc/board
<stipa>
it should be entered manually
<stipa>
or it should be some fancy code that does that automatically and logically it should be bigger
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> I'd prefer fix for now and a refactor later with fresh opinionated approaches
<stipa>
now, there's a trade off, doing it automatically or manually, automatically should make less work but it doesn't always work as intended
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Well armbian's whole thing is it does all the fiddly shit for the edge cases for these crazy boards and gives a consistent results. It's always gonna be the fact that custom shit has to be done
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Otherwise this project wouldn't need to exist
<stipa>
yeah, but that is extra work
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Effectively think about it like a driver pattern where board support is effectively a "driver" for an SBC that provides the relevant abstraction
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Yes it is extra work. That's the point of the project
<stipa>
you know what
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> To consolidate the extra work
<stipa>
i think that's a job for the AI
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Not to eliminate
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> ROFL sure
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Get on that NPU training
<stipa>
i guess it's the time to make some use of all that AI stuff
<stipa>
replace all auto scripts with AI !!!
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> There ya go
<stipa>
\o/
<c0rnelius>
the variables and functions could be places in a file and sourced, only the # display bit needs to be in the script: https://paste.debian.net/1247497/
<ArmbianHelper>
^ debian Pastezone
<c0rnelius>
seems to work fine for me on all my boards. as long as they are functioning properly.
<stipa>
i think that "driver" is a level below that
<stipa>
it should get readings directly from silicon
<stipa>
and make those "varibales" available to the linux where your code steps in
<c0rnelius>
i have like two versions of that. one that I use as a motd and one with more info I use to monitor which shows cpu usage and mem avail and used.

<Tonymac32> Sigh, so far on Rock 5: The board is 74x100, so physically larger than PicoITX, and only the 2 mounting holes match the form factor white paper.
