<kittennbfive> May i ask a slightly off-topic question? I am looking for a _simple_ tool (Linux, FLOSS) to create some diagrams for documentation of my FPGA-stuff, something like https://forums.xilinx.com/xlnx/attachments/xlnx/GenDis/37153/1/schematic.JPG . Inkscape can certainly do it but i am not familiar with it and it looks complicated. Currently i am looking at an old software called "Dia" but i can't find the magic "FPGA-block-diagram"-butto
<kittennbfive> n. What are you using?

<kittennbfive> agg: thank you. There is an AppImage for that tool, a little big and the usual electron-sandbox-thingy-problem but it runs fine. Just trying it...

<kittennbfive> ok, i have the same problem as with Dia: How to specify a bus width like the "4" here https://i.stack.imgur.com/0Ln8g.png ?
<agg> hm, so adding text associated to an edge is easy enough (double click the edge), but putting the / on the line is a bit trickier
emeb_mac has joined ##openfpga
<agg> maybe not awful but a little inconvenient: you can put two texts on the line, one exactly on it with a / text, and then a width text above
emeb has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<agg> or even one text box with a multi-line text, 4 \n /, looks the same
<kittennbfive> thats a nice hack, but how will it work for _vertical_ connections?
emeb has joined ##openfpga
<kittennbfive> I mean it will work but the graphic will be a little different
<agg> sure, each text box can be rotated easily
<kittennbfive> Uh ok, rotating the text, i did not think about that! I think that should be okay for my needs.
<agg> it would be nice if you could just have it draw a / on the line, and maybe it's possible using a custom style? not sure
<agg> on the whole it was the best diagramming software I found for linux thanks to handling all the connectivity fairly well
<agg> its native file format is an xml in .drawio files, but it can also store it inside a .svg (a bit like inkscape) so you just have one svg, and you can use the appimage as a command-line tool to convert between file formats too (without starting the gui)
<kittennbfive> It's FOSS, so theoretically everything is possible, but i have enough yacks to shave already... Otherwise i would just learn Inkscape...
<agg> if you know exactly how the diagram should look (layout, text, contents, etc) then inkscape can be nice to make a final diagram with perfect stylign
<agg> but it's such a huge chore to lay things out in it or rearrange anything that I don't bother
<agg> but by custom style, I mean you can paste extra style info for each element (as css? or xml? not sure) so maybe you can just paste some magic in that will do the trick, and do that for each line quickly
<kittennbfive> I looked briefly "inside" Dia, not this thing, and it was svg
<kittennbfive> So probably svg==xml i would guess
<kittennbfive> Anway, i dont want to spam to much OT here...
