<Guest39> I found that the river package of Arch Linux has not been updated. Is it because of the lack of maintainers?
<ifreund> I dont know why the Arch package hasn't been updated

<cathalo> I assume this is a common issue but my firefox cursor theme is different from my desktop theme ( actually also foot is different too ! ). How  can I reconcile this ?
<ifreund> cathalo: you probably want to set a theme for river (`riverctl xcursor-theme foo`) and configure gtk3 to use the same theme
<ifreund> foot should use whatever river is configured to use

<cathalo34> I have done both of those, and the cursor is changed fine in river but not in any applications
<ifreund> you might need to restart your river session or at the very least the applications for the new cursor theme to take affect
<ifreund> there is a wayland protocol extension that makes this mess better but there's not widespread application support yet
<ifreund> recent foot versions should support it though

<cathalo34> ok thanks, got it working now !
<ifreund> no problem!

<leon-p> when setting the cursor theme via gsettings, any gtk applications really should update immediately

<ifreund> the legacy XCURSOR_THEME environment variable configuration will always require a restart though

<gbrlsnchs> ifreund: would that env var help with setting the cursor on Xwayland apps?
<ifreund> gbrlsnchs: yes, that is how river communicates the cursor theme to X11 clients
<ifreund> (and in practice many Wayland clients as well)
<gbrlsnchs> gotcha, thank you!
<belanthor> hello to the wayland lands, would it be possible to turn river into a manual tiler with a different algorythm than rivertile?
<belanthor> i'm asking because there hasn't been a proper wayland alternative for herbstluftwm and turning the alghorythm into a zig script for river seems a little easier than starting from scratch, mostly because i'm no programmer :) than
<leon-p> belanthor: not yet, but likely when the proper WM protocol is implemented
<belanthor> cool, sounds good to me, i'm not in a hurry
<belanthor> i like the configure-through-a-bash-script-approach of river and also the name :)
