<ifreund>
I personally haven't used one in years...
<Franciman>
i use it for nm-applet, for connecting to wifi
<ifreund>
I use nmcli
<ifreund>
I haven't acutally been using a bar either for a while
<Franciman>
oh cool
<Franciman>
how do you deal with tags?
<Franciman>
do you remember them?
<ifreund>
Yeah, I guess so
<Franciman>
nice
<ifreund>
there's also river-tag-overlay but I was too lazy to set it up and haven't really missed it
<Franciman>
i'm very happy guix ships river
<Franciman>
it is so cool!
<ifreund>
I think long term I want to move beyond tags as a window management primitive but that will require me to finish the window management protocol first
<Franciman>
oh, do you already have an idea?
<ifreund>
I like fuzzy open file things, and I think I'd like not thinking about tags
<ifreund>
I think one can combine those ideas and have something like "fuzzy jump to window" "fuzzy add window to set of visible windows" etc commands
<Franciman>
gorg idea

ifreund: I had a fuzzy window switcher on sway a few years back and it worked really well, however sways workspaces got in the way for me personally
<leon-p>
my idea is to move beyond tags / workspaces as well. instead just one set of windows per output and a way to save window configurations
<leon-p>
and regarding setting up river-tag-overlay, probably the one thing I miss from X is the .Xresources file, a single config file to set up colours for all widgets, at least in theory
<ifreund>
yeah, I too would appreciate a simple, unified way to set up a colorscheme across my programs
<ifreund>
I would suggest we make up a standard but I suspect one already exists and I don't want to deal with the bikeshedding
<leon-p>
designing a theme scheme (heh) where you can just swap colours is probably really hard, since you don't know which applications use which colour for what purpose. Especially w.r.t. contrast. I remember reading a blog post about this a few years back by the designer of the emacs modus themes
<leon-p>
you could get rid of that issue by making all modes of all widgets visually distinct without relying on colour (which you really should do anyway for people who have vision deficiencies), but that's kinda hard with flat designs
<leon-p>
and while I love skeumorphism in UI design, most people / programmers don't apparently
<novakane>
yeah as someone that use light theme and always try to go for AAA contrast this is hard to do for base16 theme and apps that use something like that
<novakane>
so many apps are unusable with a light theme and using the terminal colors
