<Guest45> hi guys
<Guest45> from sway, I just installed river
<Guest45> of course I can't find anything etc, normal, and the config file looks nothing alike, more complicated.
<Guest45> I wanted to know if I could use swkd with river, and how ?
<novakane> Guest45: swhkd? if so yes no reason you can't use it, everything is controlled by riverctl commands just use them in swhkd

<Guest45> is there an equivalent to a scratchpad ?
groknull has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Guest45> so some kind of hidden window stack we can call on, one window at a time
<Guest45> and how do I cycle focus through windows ?
<hmht> riverctl focus-view next
<Guest45> noted.
<hmht> for scratchpad, just reserve a tag

<novakane> your link works for me
<Guest45> yeah, it took several minutes !
<Guest45> anyway, codeberg.
<Guest45> I aded
<Guest45> "swhks &
<Guest45> pkexec swhkd" right at the end of init.
<Guest45> oh, what about the keyboard layout ??
angry_vincent has joined #river
<Guest45> how do I convert this
<Guest45> input "type:keyboard" {
<Guest45>     xkb_layout fr
<Guest45>     xkb_variant nodeadkeys
<Guest45> }
<Guest45> into riverctl jargon ?
<Guest45> or make it into an environment variable, or custom file to point river to, etc.

<Guest45> ah I think that's the big problem
<Guest45> " riverctl keyboard-layout -variant nodeadkeys fr
<Guest45> error: The Wayland server does not support river-control-unstable-v1.
<Guest45> Do your versions of river and riverctl match?"
<Guest45> I use river from debian... is it shiete ?
<ifreund> it sounds like you're running riverctl outside of a river session
<ifreund> it needs to have WAYLAND_DISPLAY set to river's wayland socket in it's environment
<ifreund> I suspect this is a problem caused by swhkd using a separate process to execute the commands or something like that
<Guest45> yes I ran it in a terminal, but I can't get any shortcut I programmed in swhkdrc so I'm looking for an explanation

<cathalo> What do you guys use for alt-tab in river ?
<hmht> I don't have alt-tab bound to anything, if that's what you mean.
<cathalo> I am refering to the way of being able to press alt-tab and go to the previously focused output
<cathalo> i.e. image the following window ids being focused: 1 [Super + j] -> 2 [ alt + tab ] -> 1 [ alt + tab ] -> 2
leopoldek has joined #river
<belanthor> you could map focus-view next and focus-view previous
hmht has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<cathalo> I understand that, but that is more mental overhead. All I usually have open is terminal and browser, so one unified way to swap between them makes sense
<gbrlsnchs> cathalo: riverctl map normal Super Tab focus-previous-tags
<gbrlsnchs> that's what I have bound to toggle between two tags
<gbrlsnchs> I'm not totally sure, but I think this toggling behavior is only available for tags...?
<cathalo> that is all I need, thanks !

<ifreund> `riverctl zoom` is kinda related for toggling between windows currently visible on an output

<Franciman> hi all, getting started with river!
<ifreund> welcome :)
waleee has joined #river
<Franciman> hi ifreund
<Franciman> is there a way to reload river's config on the fly?
<gbrlsnchs> Franciman: you can run the newly added commands in a terminal to apply them on the fly. Otherwise you have to stop river and start it again
<Franciman> ok, cool thanks a lot!
