all I have is the d1 user manual and spec... the g2d interface is in chinese but seems to just document the Linux ioctls rather than the hardware interface :(

so if you just want a framebuffer in Linux, that should already work with d1/all (which has that branch plus the devicetree bits and a couple of other DRM driver fixes)

if you want a framebuffer in U-Boot, that's a lot more work, because the existing U-Boot drivers don't use the devicetree, so they only work on certain older chips

it should be feasible if you can get a handle for how all of the pieces work together

DE (layers => blender) => TCON => HDMI controller => HDMI PHY, plus all of the clocks needed to drive them

you'll want to take advantage of the test patterns provided by the hardware, so you can e.g. get the TCON working without the DE

I suggest joining #linux-sunxi on OFTC where there are several other people knowledgeable about Allwinner display hardware. Other than the HDMI PHY, the hardware is almost exactly the same as that in Allwinner's A64 or H3 SoCs
