< Batman_> I was going through Andrew's coursera course, I came across Octave language
< Batman_> My goal in the next year or so is to completely understand the basics of ML and contribute to organizations such as mlpack.
< Batman_> Is it recommended to learn octave?
< zoq> Batman_: mlpack is written in C++, however octave is still a good start, since the syntax of armadillo, the linear algebra library we use is similar: http://arma.sourceforge.net/docs.html#syntax
< zoq> Batman_: But not sure octave is the 'best' choice for ML
< Batman_> The above was recommended by Ryan Curtin
< Batman_> I am not sure if he wanted me to learn octave too or just the basics before that/
< Batman_> And Hence, I am asking here.
< zoq> He probably meant the basics, I guess he can clarify that part once he gets back, but I guess we don't see any response from him before Monday.
< zoq> I guess, if you like to work on octave bindings it makes sense to learn octave first.
< Batman_> Oh, I tried reaching out to him but got no reply.. I shall continue with the book for now.. Thnx a lot
< zoq> I'm sure he will get back to you once he has a chance; here are the irc logs: http://www.mlpack.org/irc/
