<diejuse> Wizzup Yes, the whole folder.
<diejuse> The proc directory does have a little better access. But it's still quite limited.
<diejuse> This does not happen when using the chroot technique where I can access things such as battery level, volume control and downloading applications through the app manager application. With proot I can't do such things (well I do think it can be achieved through some adaptations).
<diejuse> But now I'm focused on proot because I find it much more interesting for most people to know Maemo Leste. The last thing I just did is create an icon with the Maemo logo in the Android launcher so I can start it quickly and easily.
<Wizzup> nice
<Wizzup> so how do people install this?
<diejuse> Everything will be documented. Patience. :P
<diejuse> They have to install some Android applications first. Exactly Nova Launcher (if you want to see the pretty icon), Termux, Termux-X11, Termux:widgets

<inky> diejuse, so root is necessary?
<inky> heh, glad to see 3 packages packaged by me in your menu.
<inky> but i wonder how maemo and devuan packages are shown together in one screen, not in separate menus.

<freemangordon> Guys, could someone confirm that if initial pin entry on *fremantle* is skipped, and later one tries to open Phone applet in settings, no more pin entry is shown but there is "cellular network not available" message

<freemangordon> the fuck?

<arno11> freemangordon: what you discribed with PIN was still working few weeks ago for sure
<Wizzup> well he said fremantle
<arno11> oops
<arno11> apologies :P
<arno11> on Leste it could be useful to have offline/online mode switch working properly
<arno11> i mean, switching to offline works but never goes back to online
diejuse has joined #maemo-leste
<Wizzup> hm, it works for me, I think
<arno11> on d4 or n900 or both ?
<Wizzup> not sure about n900
<arno11> ok
<sicelo> arno11: i think there's a bug in the ofono driver for N900
<arno11> ah, you mean for offline/online ?
<sicelo> i've noticed that going offline can confuse the modem so bad that it never recovers properly again. until you restart ofono
moparisthebest has joined #maemo-leste
<sicelo> i suspect the gpio's aren't toggled correctly for going offline, but when ofono tears down the modem (ofono restart), it does the correct thing
<sicelo> might be an easy fix if one compares the two sequences
<arno11> yes indeed, restarting ofono works (most of the time)
<arno11> ah ok
<diejuse> My main request is... I want a new virtual keyboard (with arrow keys and other customizable ones)! where you can write and edit directly in the app. For example, when I open a script with nano I cannot edit it with the current virtual keyboard! Have you tried it without using the physical keyboard?
<sicelo> uvos might be able to suggest something to you
<sicelo> but yes, that's a well-known limitation. by the way, depending on how much space there is, you can add other keys to the bottom bar of the xterminal application
<sicelo> so you could add arrows there.
<diejuse> It's frustrating. I open osso-xterm, nano doc.sh... and I can't edit the second line for example.
<diejuse> The arrow keys would be useful if you could edit directly without entering text in the keyboard's text box. Right now it forces me to make the Android keyboard appear to edit.

<Gary_> offline/online works fine on the pinetime...in fact I tend to have to recycle the modem for ofono and works using this method

<inky> > Cool. What 3 packages are?
<inky> mstardict, maefat, msid. (:
<inky> > on Leste it could be useful to have offline/online mode switch working properly
<inky> there was tablet mode applet on fremantle. i looked to the code and i am afraid it won't work on leste, otherwise i would port it. i think it uses nokia dbus messages, not sure already.
<inky> but i really need tablet mode applet.
<inky> > It's frustrating. I open osso-xterm, nano doc.sh... and I can't edit the second line for example.
<inky> yes we need an improvement of keyboard. i think since d4 is the main device only screen devices don't get such focus.
<inky> pinephone also is very hard to use with leste.
<sicelo> inky: tablet applet should work
<inky> i'll try to port/package it then.
<diejuse> inky I'm glad we agree about the virtual keyboard. Develop a new one for me in a few days please. :P
diejuse has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<inky> yeah i suggested one improvement but we discussed it and uvos doesn't want it. maybe i should try to add it and make a pull request.
<inky> I think my suggestion was to use XChangeKeyboardMapping() function.
<inky> i did some changes in svkbd which is suckless keyboard and it is used in sxmo (minimalist mobile linux environment) but also can be used in any environment.
<inky> their keyboards are great and have all the necessary things.
<inky> arrows, ctrl, escape, everything.
<inky> i also patched it several times.
<inky> so get svkbd and use it and kill somehow maemo keyboard - that's what i can suggest.
<uvos> i agree with killing him - its terrible, but you do need to integrate whatever you want to replace it with with h-d
<uvos> which isent so easy
<uvos> since any non-terrible keyboard would have to do direct input instead of line buffering, but that would require h-d to do some smart panning/ resizeing of the target windows
<uvos> like android dose, for instance

<diejuse> inky mmm, svkbd sounds interesting.  Can I do apt-get and that's it?
<diejuse> @uvos @inky My opinion is that it would be nice to have more than one keyboard to be able to use the one a user wants. You don't need to kill any of them. But I do think it's something to do preferentially.
