<stano> this seems to be a bad way to get larger fonts in gtk apps xrandr --output DSI-1 --scale 1.2x1.2
<stano> palemoon palemoon_29.3.0-2.gtk3_armhf.deb built for Debian 9.0 runs on droid4 - no compilation needed. https://software.opensuse.org//download.html?project=home%3Astevenpusser%3Apalemoon-GTK3&package=palemoon
<stano> but it's slow and fonts/icons are too small and has no kinetic scrolling
<stano> whoever made fonts-noto* required for random things deserves a bit of material scolding
<stano> i have a cool idea! a daemon that sees what application has foreground, and maps volume buttons to different keys depending on app! e.g. browser would get pgup/pgdown mapped, media player would get volume mapped

<stano> i discovered that export GDK_SCALE=2 yields finger-tappable gtk3 gui elements: http://0x0.st/-J88.png
<stano> without hildon-desktop palemoon can go fullscreen with 100% webpage, no gui waste: http://0x0.st/-J8A.png

<stano> palemoon is super usable in fullscreen mode :)
<stano> the trend of websites to phone-friendly layouts really is helpful with 960x540
<bencoh> how does palemoon fares vs firefox?
<bencoh> -s
<stano> i think it's slower with javascript, but i don't use javascript heavy sites
<bencoh> hmm, if so I wonder why
<stano> it's better with arrowkey scrolling. firefox munged that up.
<stano> firefox has new javascript engine that's faster
<bencoh> ah
<bencoh> this might apply to palemoon as well
<stano> can we make hildon respond to fullscreen request more compatibly?
<stano> doesn't seem to :/
<bencoh> ?
<stano> under openbox palemoon gives fullscreen on F11 toggle. Under hildon it cannot.
<bencoh> mupdf goes fullscreen just fine
<stano> MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 didn't get me kinetic scrolling with finger drag
<stano> i'll test that here
<bencoh> tbf firefox doesn't go fullscreen with wmii either
<stano> what's the fullscreen toggle with mupdf?
<stano> ah 'f'
<stano> yes works here also.
<stano> it's impossible for me to websearch "pale moon" and get related results, btw.
<stano> if they hate it, it's good.
uvos has joined #maemo-leste
<uvos> hildon supports fullscreen to spec as far as i know.
<uvos> when you try to fullscreen ff creates a fullscreen ewmh window and then immidatly deletes it again and creates a windowed one
<uvos> no idea why but its not hildons doing
<uvos> maybe it thinks that the resultion it gets cant possibly be fullscreen or something
<stano> ah palemoon is doing the same thing
<stano> thanks for the info!
<uvos> also ff supports finger scrolling and all gestures you would expect (exactly the same ones as ff for android)
<uvos> incl. selection etc
<stano> mhm, palemoon is honoring arrow keys properly unlike firefox so i am content
<stano> thing is it works without hildon
<stano> /usr/sbin/dsmetool -k /usr/bin/hildon-desktop then fullscreen works
<uvos> not sure what you mean by arrow keys not working
<uvos> they work fine
<uvos> and scroll the page
<uvos> and ff has several modes like caret browsing if you want to press links with the arrow keys

<stano> i just get firefox closing after f11
<stano> firefox-esr
<stano> looks like it's in nsWindow.cpp, nsWindow::MakeFullScreen(bool aFullScreen, nsIScreen* aTargetScreen)
<stano> it tries to notify the taskbar that we will be entering full screen mode, and if taskbarInfo doesn't return proper thing, it aborts
<stano> let's see how it does without any WM
<stano> without WM it's 1/4 size
<uvos> your looking at the windows version

<stano> though palemoon is loading some stuff a bit faster, and i see webgl working in it

<stano> running glmark2-es2 on maemo-leste still makes me happy
