<Creepi> Hello, I've been attempting to install CRUX on my Thinkpad X270. I've followed the Handbook on how to install grub for UEFI but I keep on landing in the GRUB shell after rebooting. I tried searching online but couldn't find much that helped. I've tried pointing GRUB to vmlinuz
<Creepi> but it hangs after trying to boot

<SiFuh> I am anti grub, but if you can paste your config for grub online dpaste or something.
<SiFuh> Your partition set up
<SiFuh> And kernel location
<SiFuh> And what you formated you filesystem as
<SiFuh> Creepi: ^
<GazL> I'm not a grub fan either. I use elilo. much simpler to configure.
<SiFuh> I use syslinux. Some others here use efibootmgr. But there is always someone here that uses what ever you are using ;-)
<Creepi> I'm going to reinstall with another bootloader
<SiFuh> Why reinstall?
<Creepi> Easier because I don't even have a working system yet
<SiFuh> If you send us the info I requested we can help you
<Creepi> GazL: is elilo included in the lilo package?
<SiFuh> Then we can do what ever boot loader you want
<Creepi> SiFuh: I somehow managed to break my GRUB install so I don't have it anymore
<SiFuh> You don't need grub to boot your system if you have the bootable CRUX instalation medium
<Creepi> Rebooted into the live CD, mounted, and /boot/grub/ was gone
<SiFuh> /mnt/boot/grub ?
<GazL> Creepi: Nope. not in the lilo pkg. I alredy had elilo installed in my EFI partition from my slackware install.
<GazL> Unlike grub, It's just a standalone EFI executable that you drop in /boot/EFI, so it's very simple to install.
<SiFuh> GazL: Same as me. I had syslinux from Slackware, that was used in Void and then in CRUX

<SiFuh> I sent this in #OpenBSD
<cruxbot> [xorg.git/3.6]: mesa: 21.2.4 -> 21.2.5
<SiFuh> Speakers next!

<cruxbot> [contrib.git/3.6]: neomutt: 20211022 -> 20211029
<GazL> btw, I got my initrd working. It's a bit heavier than I would like as the utils are linked against glibc, but I can experiement with klibc/musl/uClib-ng in future, but at least I'm no longer borrowing the initrd from slackware.
<SiFuh> That's great
<SiFuh> How big is it?
<GazL> 6MB compressed.
<GazL> most of that is udev/cryptsetup and glibc.
<GazL> ... and the other libraries they depend on.
<GazL> There's definately scope for shrinking it.
<SiFuh> Mines 9.5
<SiFuh> Guess mines bigger ;-)
<GazL> ... as the Bishop said to the actress! Oo'er! ;)
<SiFuh> I am formatting and reinstalling soon, but I am making a gaming machine
<SiFuh> I may look into making it smaller
<GazL> What's that systemd unit under the screens on that image you posted? It's tiny!
<GazL> s/systemd/system/ oops. ;)
<Romster> /boot/vmlinuz-$version then it will work
<Romster> $version being the kernel version
<Romster> System.map-$version as well
<Romster> then make the grub config as in the manual

<jaeger> If you're landing in the grub shell, that's at least an indication that grub was installed, it just can't find its config file
<jaeger> Part of the way there, at least
