<Tekk> I'm sure I just missed it somewhere, but does river have a vertical stack available?
<Tekk> So like main window is on top, non-main windows arranged below it
<NickH> That sounds like a feature of whatever layout manager you are using

<yi> Hi everyone. I have a question about using an external monitor. I want river to automatically switch to the external monitor output when I plug in my laptop to an external monitor, and currently my solution is to use wlr-randr to manually disable the built-in monitor so that river automatically picks up the external one as the main display. This is
<yi> not ideal, because (1) I have to do it every time I plug in my laptop to the monitor; (2) my tags on the menu bar don't automatically jump to the external display, so I have to manually kill the bar and launch it again. I'm wondering if there's any way to achieve this using riverctl. Any help is very appreciated :]
tusf has left #river [#river]
<NickH> I think most people use kanshi for that (at least I do)
<NickH> See https://git.sr.ht/~emersion/kanshi/refs or your package manager

<NickH> If I undestand what you are describing, then I know that at least stacktile can do it
<NickH> It's likely some of the other one can too

<yi> Sounds good! I'll check them out. Thanks for the response.
<LarstiQ> I too use kanshi (though I extend, not turn off the laptop monitor)

<novakane> Tekk: isn't rivertile main-location top what you want?

<NickH> Tekk specified the windows should be arranged in a "stack". Didn't ask about tiling. But maybe there is a terminology mismatch...
<Tekk> Top was what I wanted, just phrased it poorly I think.
<Tekk> (I think "stack" was the term for that layout in dwm?)
<NickH> Tekk: so you want something like: https://0x0.st/XHqW.txt
<NickH> If so, that is what novakane is describing and is provided by pretty much every layout genrator
