I'm seeing a weird surface enter/leave/enter sequence on latest master (haven't checked other versions) when starting up foot.
<dnkl>
it only happens on one of the monitors, in a two-monitor setup
<dnkl>
happens with alacritty too
<dnkl>
the three events are right after each other. Nothing else in between
<ifreund>
hmm, the wlroots scene graph is what sends those events on master. Perhaps we're doing something redundant like a enable -> disable -> enable sequence all synchronously
<ifreund>
I don't think its possibly to solve that kind of thing generally without work on the wlr_scene side though
<ifreund>
there are also almost certainly cases in which river's usage of the wlr_scene API causes over-damaging
<dnkl>
thanks for the pointers!
<ifreund>
dnkl: is it causing a problem for foot or is just an annoying inefficiency?
<dnkl>
no problems, just inefficiency; it triggers font reloads and grid resizes
<dnkl>
(due to either scale or DPI changes)

I'd like to put some keymappings behind a "prefix" keymapping similar to how tmux does it. Obviously modes are what I need to use here. Am I correct that I need to create a little script (which I can obviously inline instead of having an extra file) for every prefixed mapping to return to normal mode?

RZ_MJ[m]: yeah... modes aren't really that fleshed out feature wise. Your options are either that or implement something better in river and convince me to merge it xD
<RZ_MJ[m]>
Uhh, well... I'm comfortable with Lua, know a bit of Shell and JS and just recently started learning my first statically typed language with Go. That's all. I would love to contribute to FOSS projects, but its going to take a while until I feel competent enough to do so (and competent enough to touch manual memory management). I didn't mean to sound complaining btw., just wanted to doublecheck I'm not configuring unecessary detours.

no worries!

<leon-p>
realistically all that's needed for that use case would be a way to enter a mode only for a single bind and then return. `riverctl enter-mode -oneshot prefix`
<ifreund>
yeah, there's probably some edge cases to consider though too

Hello Everyone!
<HamzaShahid>
This is my first experience with wayland, and I chose to use RiverWM, yambar & swww. Everything works wonderfully except emacs hanging but that is not the main issue
<HamzaShahid>
I wanted a monacle layout ONLY A SINGLE FRAME. I tried using Kile but it forces you to have 2 frames split.
<HamzaShahid>
How can I achieve a single Frame with stacked windows with RiverWM?
<HamzaShahid>
Thanks in Advance
<novakane>
HamzaShahid: you could try rivercarro or stacktile, both can do it
<HamzaShahid>
Oh, I was just on that, there seems to be no useful ReadME in stacktile and I don't have much experience with zig. Can you kindly explain to me how I could build it?

Sorry There was a power outage here.
<HamzaShahid>
Was there any reponse for me before this message?
hamza has joined #river
<leon-p>
HamzaShahid: for stacktile just git clone the repo and inside do `git submodule update --init` and then `zig build`
<leon-p>
configuration is explained in the man pages
<leon-p>
requires zig 0.10 btw
<HamzaShahid>
Oh I got the github version too
<hamza>
I will try to figure out the monacle thing, Thanks a bunch!

I see on the void package changes it says dbus-elogind: remove package.
<JustineSmithies>
Does that mean I've to remove it it or will things switch automatically on the next update check ???
<JustineSmithies>
Also will any services or settings be affected ? TIA ;)
