<ifreund>
got river building with zig master :)
<ifreund>
or, well zig master plus an open zig PR fixing something
<novakane>
I haven't followed, I'm assuming a zig release is coming soon then, is there a date?
<ifreund>
novakane: should land in ~2 weeks
<novakane>
oh cool, I really haven't followed any new improvement in this one, luckily zig changelog are nice usually
<ifreund>
this zig release cycle has still been mostly infrastructure work on the self hosted compiler. The build system has gotten a lot more powerful too though
<ifreund>
there's also an MVP package manager now, not something that's ready to be used for a project like river yet though
<ifreund>
eventually we'll get rid of those submodules...
<novakane>
oh no, my alias for submodule deinit and then re init will be useless :P
<novakane>
gonna be nice to get rid of submodule, just hope that zig packages will not become a shitshow like in so many language
<ifreund>
yeah... I'll certainly do my best to prevent that
<ifreund>
oh one other new thing, zig now has @cVaStart() and what not so we can get rid of that river_wlroots_log_wrapper.c thing
<novakane>
ah that's a nice one

ifreund: What would you think about a cli option to disable the execution of .config/river/init? The usecase I have is using river as a cage replacement.
<andrea>
Nevermind, I missed the -c option
<RZ_MJ[m]>
Why not simply use -c foo where foo launches your application you want to cage?
<RZ_MJ[m]>
Oh it would appear floating btw. Because you would not run a layout generator. Maybe just remove all bindings from init which the user is not supposed to use, etc.

<andrea>
Yeah with the -c option I can just write a different init script that would also launch the single application
<andrea>
The lack of a layout generator should not be a problem if the app uses layer shell
<andrea>
So running the app directly with -c as you said should also work

Any plans/policy for what version of zig will be required for future river releases?
