<leon-p> is it just me or is using Super+Space, a very simple to type bind, for toggling float, something at least I basically never do, massive waste?
milesrout is now known as mrr
mrr is now known as milesr
<leon-p> maybe we should at some point look at our example keybinds again, since a lot of them were cargo-culted over from dwm
<ifreund> I use mod+alt t for floating and mod+t for fullscreen fwiw
<ifreund> mod+space is zoom for me
<ifreund> and mod+alt space is new terminal
<leon-p> yeah I just switched to S-f for toggle float and S-Shift-f for toggle fullscreen, because I now use S-Space for spawning a terminal, since my previous terminal keybind S-n is now for focus-view next
milesr is now known as rselim
<ifreund> If you want to improve the default config I trust your judgement there, I'm too caught up in my weird keyboard/layout to know what qwerty users want any more xD
<leon-p> maybe someday
<leon-p> although I am not a True Touch Typer™️, so I kinda doubt I am very representative
<leon-p> the biggest trick I pulled off is making a lot of people use the Super+Alt binds from the example init, which are super awkward if you try to touchtype on qwerty
<ifreund> yeah, that's something that's super comfy for me
<ifreund> super+alt+control+shift is even comfy for me
<plumeus> By "touchtype", are you referring to the way in which people place their fingers on the keyboard rows, or just people's habits to type without looking?
<plumeus> Because I've seen it used interchangeably and I never know which.
<leon-p> mostly the position. I can type blind fine, but I don't rest on the home rows and I maybe move my wrists a bit too much
<leon-p> but thanks to split keyboard at an ergonomic distance, it shouldn't be a health concern. I don't type that much anyway
<ifreund> I don't think "perfect" homerow fingers stay in their columns typing is optimal for qwerty even
<ifreund> they layout has far too many awkward same finger bigrams and whatnot for that
<leon-p> yeah and people can never agree on whether your index or middle finger should be on f and j, but that is also a local thing maybe
<ifreund> oh, is that cause of
<ifreund> *is that cause of the umaluts on the german keyboard?
<ifreund> In the US index on f and j is standard without debate
<ifreund> I think the solution is to keep taking away keys until it's obvious where your fingers belong :D
* RZ_MJ[m] learned vim before touchtyping, so now the right hand has broken muscle memory and the index fingers are on f and h instead of f and j.
<leon-p> no idea TBH, but my mother used to be a typist on the last teletypes and she learned to have the fingers on index fingers on f and j. And I think i3s default binds also assume that
<ifreund> RZ_MJ[m]: hah, yeah I always hated how the index would have to do both left and down, I ended up moving the directional keys one unit to the right and remapping stuff when I switched away from qwerty
<ifreund> much more comfy now

<FireFly> the first thing I did was basically to go over the example config and change all the keybinds to where my muscle memory is used to them, heh

<FireFly> re touch typing etc, I decided to pick up dvorak in highschool over a weeklong break and used it as an opportunity to force myself to use the "right" finger for each key, which seems to have worked well since I was building new muscle memory anyway instead of trying to rewire existing memory
