dnkl: if you mean pam_rundir, then that may be because you logged out of an ssh session or something similar (as it only counts sessions on ttys minus one)

leon-p: is it possible that the keyboard gets destroyed and recreated and no longer is in that group? (i haven't seen how it's done, so excuse me if i'm completely outta context)

possible (even likely IIRC), but technically it should be re-added to the group automatically on re-creation

tiosgz: yeah, that's exactly what happened. Thing is I copied the logic it (pam_runtime) uses to count sessions, and everything looked right. But I probably missed something.
