<mon_aaraj> you guys aren't experiencing crashing with river, are you?
<mon_aaraj> it seems that every time i launch river, it crashes after a while now
<mon_aaraj> before, well, it used to just freeze if i kept my laptop on for a couple dozen hours

<mon_aaraj> i had it way before when i was using rofi-lbonn, since every single time i launched it, it would crash river entirely, but this time i wasn't really using it
<mon_aaraj> it seems like it's working now, so whatever
<ifreund> mon_aaraj: what river version? do you have a stack trace?
vaivis has joined #river
<ifreund> river should never crash, every river crash is a river bug
<mon_aaraj> well, the only stack trace i might have had is the history in the tty, which i do not think i can reach right now
<mon_aaraj> mostly because i cannot scroll up, i actually had to run xorg for a couple minutes to see what was going on
<mon_aaraj> sorry haha, ill make sure i document any crash i come across from now on, i just thought that i was doing something goofy, but apparently it was something flaring up
<mon_aaraj> hm. i may be able to provide logs for river crashing after running rofi-lbonn
<ifreund> please also try river master if you aren't already using it, there's always the chance it's already been fixed
<mon_aaraj> https://bpa.st/US7Q here's what i have
<mon_aaraj> ah, i appear to be using river-git on arch, so i do think it is master
<mon_aaraj> how do i generate a stack trace for this, because I don't think the logs above count as that
<mon_aaraj> or is that good enough as it is?
<leon-p> mon_aaraj: if you are on arch, you can get the coredumps of previous crashes with `coredumpctl`. If you do `coredumpctl debug` it launches a gdb session in the latest core
<leon-p> in gdb, use the `bt` command to get a backtrace
<mon_aaraj> I'm not quite using arch, so I don't have that command, I guess I'll use the GDB way but I'm afraid it won't be all that useful without debugging symbols, I think?
<ifreund> mon_aaraj: alternatively just building river in debug mode (drop the -Drelease-safe build flag) should be sufficient to get a workable stack trace
<mon_aaraj> huh. after doing just that, it seems to work, i guess i might've not updated river-git in a while or something?
<ifreund> mon_aaraj: that's likely
<mon_aaraj> well, thank you all so very much for your help!
<ifreund> no problem!

<NickH> mon_aaraj: river-git is seems to be versin 0.1.0.something. The current release is 0.1.3.
<NickH> Ie, it is very old. There have been quite a few important updates since that AUR upload.

<NickH> For the current release of river on Arch it seems you can use https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/river
