<sverona>
hey y'all, i've read the wiki but it's a little oblique on this point --- is it outright impossible to share tags between outputs, the way xmonad does it?
<sverona>
so much is left open-ended (which is amazing btw) that i'm not sure if it can't be done or just if no one has implemented it
<NickH>
sverona: it's my understanding that what you describe is not possible.
<NickH>
...but I could be mistaken or misunderstanding what you want to do (I've not used xmonad).
<sverona>
NickH: rather than one "tag 1" per output, there is a single "tag 1" accessed on any output by Alt+1 or whatever the binding is
<NickH>
Ok, I don't think that is possible.
<sverona>
thanks anyway. i've been looking for a good wayland-based dwm-style wm for a couple years now. river is, aside from that one teensy thing, what i've had in mind.
<sverona>
so major props to all y'all
<NickH>
I just started using it a couple of months ago. Had been looking for a replacement for awesome.
<NickH>
Used sway for a couple of years but really didn't get on with it.
<sverona>
i can get by with i3-style tiling but yeah i tend to agree
<sverona>
awesome was pretty good except for the monolithic config style
<sverona>
NickH: was sway, been hopping since. tried dwm again --- didn't want to go through the hassle of implementing the ewmh features i needed. xmonad will frustrate me eternally until i learn a haskell. spectrwm was good but doesn't manage bars properly. i loved wmfs for a couple years, can't remember why i left it, might've been the state of the docs at the time
<sverona>
tbh i have come around to the wayland way of thinking --- it is *so* much easier to just Configure All The Things in one or two places rather than carrying around a big hassle to manage bars like the one that ships with bspwm
<sverona>
scrollmaster: so it's under construction. cool! i can live with that. think i've found my new home :)
<NickH>
scrollmaster: that issue is an interesting read.
<NickH>
sverona: have you actually given river a try yet or just reading about it so far?
<sverona>
NickH: running it now, does everything else i want it to, actually has a manpage unlike some wms i've seen, documentation is clear, defaults are sensible, riverctl seems pretty well designed. easy win

Nice. The documentation is definitely better than most projects.
