<InPhase> J1A84: I don't know about workflow for a blind adult, as maybe that's too slow for most purposes, but for fixed things like marking money that might be really handy. Also, one of the huge values of that sort of thing might be for young blind children? Seeing children are given all these letter toys to work with and arrange. That's basically a small manipulative that can also mark paper.
<J1A84> yes and you can make fixed combination and print that are often used like "TODO" - you also can emboss aluminum foil and fill with glue /resin for stability and then put on  a glas "SALT"
<J1A84> - and you can wear as a bracelet or necklace
<InPhase> J1A84: Perhaps there's someone in Marburg who would know if this is useful. They are already making good use of 3D printing for educational purposes: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210916-the-school-that-change-a-city-into-a-place-for-the-blind
<J1A84> always love to learn and read about german things in english media .. Ü
<J1A84> https://www.blindspot.de/  .. meh

<J1A84> i have droped them an email
<J1A84> +p
<teepee> ahh, it's alive \o/
<InPhase> Let me know if they end up with an interest in it. I will be curious to know if that's a useful solution path. It looks to me like close to the simplest useful structure you can make for a printable manipulative like that, so you might have hit on something useful.
<teepee> I'd also love to hear if there's stuff for openscad itself where we could help vision impaired people using it
<InPhase> J1A84: Your design also has the standard letters on, which is both educational and potentially useful as a dual-medium for seeing parents of blind children to help them out in working with them.
<teepee> I've been meaning to contact the people doing those workshops in new york public library
<teepee> I think organized by https://twitter.com/ChanceyFleet
<InPhase> J1A84: Looks like you didn't push the ub.scad version to support this yet.
<InPhase> Your version complainer feature is triggering after a git pull. :)
<teepee> oh, I do have some contacts to Marburg, didn't hear about the part about "Blindenstadt"
<J1A84> .. it is always the template that i update .. nothing new used here .. but let me update
<J1A84> so now β22|185
<teepee> oh, my, almosts 200 days already in this year? how did that happen
<InPhase> teepee: Unclear, given that 2020 just ended a few months ago.
<J1A84> yes we are over summer solstice 190 day today
<teepee> yep, somethings is wrong here
<teepee> also I have no idea where all those extra s are coming from ;-)
<teepee> well. comings from I should say
<J1A84> friendly reminder to fill the advents calender 2022
<teepee> I did think about that already
<InPhase> J1A84: Yeah, seeing it in OpenSCAD and rotating around I am convinced this is a pretty good model.
<teepee> while trying not to go crazy from the heat
<J1A84> InPhase thanks - appreciated
<InPhase> J1A84: Even the little thing like making the top extend less long than the bottom showed good insight to the usage mechanics. :)
<InPhase> Also everything is properly angled and smoothed for both the tactile importance and the side printability.
<J1A84> only if printed as one piece .. supports are needed
<InPhase> Like the dots themselves cannot be hemicircles, but you went with a Gaussian-like shape which should work perfectly.
<J1A84> yeah vollwelle uses 60° by default (but can be changed)  with 60 the 2 radii are also the height .. but that can also be set heigher
<J1A84> i am using this for all sort of  grooves
<J1A84> and lips
<J1A84> you can see that the imprint uses slightly different radii to make sure paper is embossed nicely

<linext> this could make a good 3d printed calendar: https://ilyabirman.net/forebruary/
<Friithian> seems like a bit much to 3d print
<J1A84> nice idea
<J1A84> it is just a frame and a back with numbers
<Friithian> if you have a laser cutter that'd be a quick 10 minute thing to make, that'd be fun
