<arno11> freemangordon: [home] radius = 0 and radius_more = 0
<arno11> instead of 12 and 16
<freemangordon> hmm, ok, that does not make sense :)
<freemangordon> that should affect pressing shortcuts only
<freemangordon> but ok, will check
<arno11> seems just a workaround to block blur
<freemangordon> which blur?
<arno11> it doesn't really deactivate it
<freemangordon> anyway, will check
<arno11> see tmo threads
<arno11> *about blur
<freemangordon> link?
<arno11> (sorry, a bit busy atm) i forgot to mention that some themes override some transitions, that's maybe why we observe different behaviours from a device to another
<arno11> bbl
arno11 has left #maemo-leste [#maemo-leste]
<freemangordon> ok
<sicelo> when i boot my n900, once everything is loaded, it then hangs completely. any ideas?
<sicelo> e.g. if i boot and don't interact with device, after booting, screen turns off (which is normal), then i can't wake up device anymore

<arno11> freemangordon:# Blurring of the home view
<arno11> # -- radius: amount of iterations of blur filter to perform when not zoooming
<arno11> # eg. for dialogs
<arno11> # -- radius_more: amount of iterations of blur filter to perform when zooming
<arno11> sicelo: that's the actual boot issue (freeze)
<arno11> it works if you restart 3-4 times
<sicelo> mmm, ok
<arno11> but that's a pita
<arno11> seems oom but not sure
<arno11> that's totaly random
uvos__ has joined #maemo-leste
<arno11> freemangordon: iirc (from cssu threads), the 2 radius settings in [home] make all transitions buggy
<arno11> it has never been solved apparently
<arno11> it was not really visible on D4 (the slowness), excepting for h-s-m and power button menu
<arno11> that's all i know
<sicelo> if it's oom, shouldn't device recover eventually?
<arno11> tht's why i'm really not sure it is oom
<arno11> and sometimes i'm able to see that swap is already activated before the freeze
<uvos__> linux can absulty essentaly hang indefinately on oom
<uvos__> with the oom killer never activateing
<arno11> ok
<arno11> iirc this issue appeared in december
<uvos__> could just be leste growing in size
<arno11> but now that's more complicated to boot
<arno11> yes indeed
<uvos__> oculd be something else too
<uvos__> needs serial output
<arno11> yep

<Wizzup> sicelo: this is with latest changes right?
<sicelo> iirc it was there before, but does seem worse now somehow
<Wizzup> sicelo: just checking if you got sd swap properly
<freemangordon> Wizzup: so, what will happen if you don;'t have sd swap partition?
<freemangordon> also, I don;t understand why we don;t try to find the regression, but hacking around instead
<Wizzup> /swap is on rootfs so no need for swap partition
<Wizzup> better first see if it is fixed in latest kernel
arno11 has joined #maemo-leste
<Wizzup> btw I think the first thing to check is if swap is enabled early enough in boot process
<Wizzup> if it enabled relatively late, then all bets are off
<arno11> freemangordon: to resume: we have 3 issues on boot maybe linked each other: emmc swap very slow with kernel 6.6, hsm crash and freeze on boot with 6.1 and 6.6
<arno11> Wizzup: true

<arno11> Wizzup: new devel upgrade works fine
<arno11> the new swap has been added but it doesn't check if a previous swapfile is there

<arno11> btw the n900-perf.conf script seems to not work anymore. can someone confirm ?
Wikiwide has joined #maemo-leste
<Wizzup> arno11: it checks for /swap
<Wizzup> if you named it something else, then yeah
<arno11> ah ok
<arno11> makes sense, no probs anyway
<arno11> so i tried to reboot without hsm earlier, and still the same boot issue
<arno11> but able to reboot fine after the last upgrade
<arno11> Wizzup: btw do you see an error on boot with n900-perf.conf script ?

<arno11> sicelo: did you upgrade to the last devel stuff btw ?
Livio has joined #maemo-leste
<sicelo> yes
<arno11> ok and able to boot now ?
<arno11> just curious
<arno11> i already try to remove many things from xsession and custom n900 stuff from init.d, still the same issue (until the last upgrade, seems better now)
<arno11> so we definitely need to check when swap is really starting on boot
<arno11> btw hsm crash is definitely a different problem bcs n900 freezes without it on boot
<arno11> same for vm custom stuff
<arno11> and it still happens randomly
<arno11> (just as a reminder)
<arno11> same for cmtspeech
<arno11> ah, i didn't try to boot without nokia-modem
<Wizzup> arno11: first thing to check is when swam is loaded I think
<Wizzup> oh this is for your status menu issue?
<freemangordon> Wizzup: I think I am missing something in regards to that 'blur' issue
<freemangordon> you say opening h-s-m is slow, right?
<freemangordon> and also scrolling?
<freemangordon> arno11: did you have chance to measure FPS?
<arno11> i have to go now, but this evening/night should be ok for fps
<freemangordon> ok
<arno11> Wizzup: yes for swap, that's what i said as well :P

<freemangordon> ok, I upgraded, enabled swap on emmc and disabled /swap and I see no performance issue
<freemangordon> also, I put sim card in that device, albeit it is old one and will not register to the network
<freemangordon> hmm, yeah, device seems to freeze for couple of seconds
arno11 has joined #maemo-leste
<arno11> freemangordon: got the fps results:
<freemangordon> please pastebin, irc does not allow more than one line
<arno11> with no radius, 44 fps in app menu, 30 fps on desktops
<freemangordon> arno11: sorry, what is app menu?
<arno11> 25 fps in app menu with radius enable
<arno11> the icons menu
<freemangordon> hildon-status-menu?
<arno11> nope
<freemangordon> launcher?
<arno11> the menu where there are all apps
<arno11> yes the launcher
<freemangordon> ah, so launcher
<arno11> there is a huge diff with blur vs no blur
<arno11> btw enabling fps mode slows down the device a bit
<arno11> so probably around 50 fps with no blur
<freemangordon> ok, but 25 fps on n900 is not exactly 'slow'
<arno11> maybe but the feeling is slow
<arno11> and apps are slow to launch
<freemangordon> well, that's a personal POV :)
<freemangordon> ok, lemme disable it to check
<arno11> hm not really imo
<arno11> yes you should try
<freemangordon> here desktops scroll with > 50 fps and blur enabled
<freemangordon> 55
<freemangordon> year, rigth
<arno11> ???
<freemangordon> without blur it is very fast
<freemangordon> but, blur should not affect the scrolling
<arno11> yes agree
<freemangordon> as it is just a texture
<freemangordon> ok, will have a look
<arno11> ok
<sicelo> arno11: so after upgrading is when i could no longer really use the device :-)
<sicelo> there is /swap file on SD card when I mount it on pc
<sicelo> but yes, right now i can't use Leste on the N900
<arno11> wow :(

<Wizzup> mhm
<arno11> if it is not swap, what else ? kernel ?

<arno11> to get the menu you need to keep the keyboard opened
