<naoki> RFC: is it acceptable that making rk3328-rock-pi-e-v3.dts symlink which point to rk3328-rock-pi-e.dts in linux tree?
<naoki> they are identical from dt PoV...

<naoki> I am seriously lacking in explanatory skills...
<naoki> probably I should write something in v3.dts...

<naoki> is there any way to refer upstream "rk3328-rock-pi-e.dts" from u-boot "rk3328-rock-pi-e-v3-u-boot.dtsi" which is for DDR4?
<naoki> I guess TPL need to be improved to support different DDR SDRAM configuration at run time
raster has quit [Quit: Gettin' stinky!]
<diederik> move common parts into a dtsi file?
<naoki> only model and compatible are different, rest is common? then what is different? if rest is same, it's same
<naoki> if this https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/uboot/patch/20240623041542.50137-1-naoki@radxa.com/ (bring rk3328.dtsi from upstream and add rk3328-rock-pi-e-v3.dts which is 100% same with non-v3 one) is acceptable, I'm fine
<naoki> (*-u-boot.dtsi can be simplified)
<naoki> CONFIG_ROCKCHIP_EXTERNAL_TPL=y may be best solution

<diederik> dunno if u-boot does things differently. But f.e. arch/arm64/boot/dts/mediatek/mt7988a-bananapi-bpi-r4.dts is 'empty' apart from compatible/model/chassis-type
<naoki> hmm

<naoki> I sent new patch set. yes, Pi E v3.0 and prior are different, incompatible models, but can share most part of dts
<diederik> patches/commits need to be atomic. The rk3328-rock-pi-e.dts part of patch 3 needs to be in patch 2
<diederik> otherwise if only patch 2 is applied you no longer have a working rock pi E v1.2
<naoki> hmm, it's good chance to change mmc alias order :)
<naoki> (I'm stupid)
<naoki> ah, thanks for your comment!

<mmind00> dsimic: we seem to have the same ideas :-D
<dsimic> oh, --break-rewrites? :)
<mmind00> just thankfully you could point to the param
<dsimic> I think that using --break-rewrites should produce a nice patch
<dsimic> mmind00: are you actually Heiko? :)
<mmind00> dsimic: yep
<dsimic> good to know :)
<dsimic> I missed your response before replying :)
<mmind00> it looks like we replied around the same time too :-)

<naoki> oh --break-rewrites, I didn't know it
<naoki> thanks, and sorry for spamming
<naoki> v1 2/3 was easy for review ;)
<naoki> anywawy, I'll not send v4 today (if it's needed)
<naoki> v3 should be ok for me
<naoki> (I may make a patch for another board)
<dsimic> yeah, it's common not to send more than one patch(set) version within a couple of days
<dsimic> just as Heiko described
<dsimic> you'll need the v4, which should shrink the large patch
<diederik> which technically would be v5 ...
<dsimic> true
<naoki> haha...
