apparently "Plex Companion" hasn't been supported since 2017 in the addon, so no casting

i'm using a raspberry pi 5, was hoping i'd get something relatively cheap (~100€) that can be the perfect plex client to recommend for my friends, instead of crappy chromecasts

kodi/libreelec performance is awesome, 45c with a passively cooled alu heatsink case, both h265 and h264 decode. the UI/UX leaves much to be desired though, and with the WLAN accident requiring a SSH to fix, i dont think i can recommend it :(

i gave android tv a quick spin too, performance isn't there even though the build said hw decode is supported etc, wouldn't direct play 4k hdr

audio has always been an issue, quiet dialogue etc, LG webOS Plex app on a 2000€ OLED can't direct play TrueHD audio and it asks the server to transcode everything, dropping HDR

There are dozens of android boxes with specs greater than Chromecast on the market. Although the latest 4K Chromecast is pretty capable. Roku Ultra hits your price point and is a super box (no kodi there, however.)

CEC isn't working, i thought my adapter is to blame but it worked fine in android TV, how do I debug this?

i'm using the second hdmi port because of the fat adapter, i tried configuring the port to either 1 or 2 (and reboot inbetween)

interestingly enough in android it worked with "HDMI0" even though I had to change the audio to "HDMI1"
