<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> the EDID data only shows 4K30 modes so forcing the RPi4 to output at 4K60 probably isn’t going to work

<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> that could be cables, it could also be the port you’re connected to on the TV
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> not all ports are equal .. and some TVs might need ‘gaming’ mode or something enabling to use 4K60 sources
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> RPi4 also needs a specific config option in config.txt to enable 4K60 modes
<LEBot> [slack] <chewitt> (not sure if that was the objective?)

<zsw> I set the cmdline.txt to video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080@30D
<zsw> Although I tested three cables, they're all three years old and I'm but sure they're rated for 4k. I ordered a new cable last night and will test with it hopefully later today
<zsw> fwiw, I'm testing with two rpi4s one running libreelec and the other voidlinux. I'm testing on two TVs and have tested all the HDMI ports on the TVs as well as the HDMI ports on an rpi4
<zsw> I have tested the libreelec rpi, but the voidlinux one works with a 24" monitor. The libreelec rpi has worked well for three years with my old TV
<zsw> Back then it didn't work at first, but you had me add video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080@60D to the cmdline.txt and that got it.

<Leolo_2> question - I have libreelect and kodi running on a small DX30. I would like to stream from a windows PC to Kodi. is this easily done?
<mack> enabling upnp in kodi and streaming from something like vlc on windows works, if I recall correctly.
<mack> if you want streaming from youtube on the PC, there is an easy browser extension.
<Leolo_2> streaming from cbc.ca/sports
<Leolo_2> or basically anything on screen
<mack> those same addons might handle it. But be aware sports broadcasters go to extreme measures to thwart all streaming of their content.
<Leolo_2> yeah, I'm not streaming to the internet at large, but to another room of my house. I could run HDMI but that's a lot of bother
<Leolo_2> I'll also point out that CBC is free to all Canadians. We pay for it with taxes, basically. So this is not piracy related.
<mack> no, I mean between devices, not to the internet. It might be different in Canada, but my money is they're annoying about it there, too.
<Leolo_2> fair enough
<mack> check the brower extensions matching "kodi" search terms. You might have success.

<zsw> wait, I forgot to switch the output on the TV
<zsw> Nope, it still doesn't work
<zsw> -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 9 20:28 /sys/devices/platform/gpu/drm/card1/card1-HDMI-A-1/edid
<zsw> -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Dec 9 20:28 /sys/devices/platform/gpu/drm/card1/card1-HDMI-A-2/edid
<zsw> hmm. I was testing with the void rpi4. With the libreelec it does almost work. The screen is flashing off/on.
<zsw> Should I increase 'config_hdmi_boost'?

<zsw> I reverted the cmdline.txt back to what it was on my old TV, ie
<zsw> boot=UUID=0106-1615 disk=UUID=f8fb3cf4-a55b-465a-8b04-55bf7c747aef drm.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/edid-HDMI-A-1.bin video=HDMI-A-1:D ## libreelec
<zsw> boot=UUID=0106-1615 disk=UUID=f8fb3cf4-a55b-465a-8b04-55bf7c747aef video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080@60D
<zsw> The first is what was there, and the second is what I reverted to. Now there is no flicker and things seem to be working again
<zsw> Before when I had the libreelec rpi4 plugged in the HDMI input was labelled 'KODI' now it is named, 'Recorder_1'.
