<{HD}> Is there support for the raspi poe+ hat? I have one plugged in and the fan isn't kicking on. Do I need to configure that somewhere?

<Mead> I've got an old all in one computer (AthlonX2 with chipset IGP HD 3200) is there a legacy version of openelec that would better run on this old of a system?
<xe`> As a general point unless you have an absolute dieing need to use a 10-16 year old system you will find the reality of a SoC like RPi or allwinner better in every way. Its just not worth it and if you use the system enough at some point your power bill would have paid for the new SoC anyway

<Alexthek1d> Hi
<Alexthek1d> will libreElec 10 (Matrix) be a problem for Raspberry pi 3?

<Mead> xe`: I own it already, hardware isn't cheap right now and I'd rather not send it to become e-waste before it is dies. Besides, it is 22 Watt CPU, so it isn't like I'm running a bulldozer or something.
<xe`> try generic. if that doesnt work go back generation by generation until you find something that works enough for you but set your expectations low
<Mead> I've got a 9.95.5 live booted right now, and it played a 1080p h.264 file nicely. I think I might have been over thinking I might need an older version. Just gonna have to avoid h.265

<{HD}> anyone have a hint for getting a poe hat fan to work with libreelec? I just ran raspios and the fan works and everything is up to date.
<{HD}> I just double checked that my libreelec is upto date and it is

<mack> {HD}: does you hat require config.txt entries? a quick search of the forum leads me to think they do. I haven't used one, though.
<mack> my case fan with temperature control requires a python script and the rpi-tools addon to interface the GPIO pins
<{HD}> mack: I agree. I did a scan of the device tree and it wasn't loaded so I manually loaded it via config.txt. It did load and I checked to make sure the temperature thresholds were right. Still didn't spin up the fan though.
<{HD}> mack: Yea, i used to do it that way. I had a python script run from the autostart.sh file.
<{HD}> This hat has its own driver and firmware so I shouldn't need anything like that.
<mack> if your hat is similar to this one, the threshholds are 4 instead of 2. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=276805
<{HD}> there are a few mentions of it on the forum but no details. THe forum doesn't seem super active.
<{HD}> mack: Yes, I at first left the default thresholds which I think were 40, 45, 50, and 55 but later changed them to see if that would kick it off. No dice.
<mack> LE specific: https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/22177-pi-3b-and-poe-hat-not-respecting-fan-temp-settings-in-config-txt/ in case you don't have the config.txt syntax correct. also mentions the 4 entries.
<{HD}> yep. Maybe I will try it with a clean install of libreelec since mine is pretty old and has many addons and tools... Just to possibly eliminate that as a variable.
<{HD}> maybe even try beta10

<mack> check addons you want to keep are updated to Python 3 before trying LE10 :)
<mack> well, you can always try.. a fresh install on a spare disk/card.
<{HD}> mack: Yea, that is what I am going to do . I have a new usb drive flashing right now.
<{HD}> I see config.txt in both /usr/share/bootloader/ and /flash/ which is the one I want to poke? They don't appear to be links of eachother.

<{HD}> well, looks like both are readonly.
<mack> /flash. Easiest to edit on another PC
<{HD}> mack: I just remounted it as rw...
<mack> (unix LF format)
<mack> that works too
<mack> for most people, it's easier to explain editing on another computer rather than remounting :)

<{HD}> Well, I have beta installed and doesn't look like the rpi-poe overlay gets loaded by default. So, I am forcing it and checking again what happens.
<{HD}> mack: ITS SPINNING!
<mack> grats
<{HD}> So, now I am going to try a clean install of non-beta and see if it was indeed an addon/config that was messing it up or if its just not supported...
<{HD}> mack: Just in case your wondering it doesn't work on stable
<{HD}> so, maybe a kernel/driver/firmware update or something in 10
<mack> weird. The forum seems to have people using them or a similar device successfully.
