Hi
<testuser[m]1>
What does wlroots being "owned" by free desktop mean
<testuser[m]1>
Wouldn't the contributors be the same
<illiliti>
i mean these bullshit changes started after transition to freedesktop
<illiliti>
coincidence? i don't think so
<illiliti>
redhat took over the control, it's obvious. they started enforcing their corporate policy to wlroots
<illiliti>
we will see more bullshit in the future
<testuser[m]1>
hmm
<konimex>
didn't ddevault himself proposed the move to freedesktop?
<illiliti>
> ddevault closed this on Oct 25, 2019
<illiliti>
> emersion reopened this on Sep 26
<illiliti>
Drew doesn't control wlroots anymore afaik
<konimex>
so what's the reason for ddevault closing the issue in the first place before the new guy went ahead?
<illiliti>
we don't know
<konimex>
> Pulling the plug on this for now until the following GitLab bug is addressed:
<konimex>
looks like technical reason rather than ideological reason
<konimex>
you know what, if the freedesktop move means wlroots (and therefore sway) is pressured and forced to support nvidia, it will be a positive (for me at least)
<illiliti>
yeah, but closing the issue rather than simply leaving it open looks suspicious
<illiliti>
nvidia support will never happen unless they open source code of driver
<konimex>
> nvidia support will never happen unless they open source code of driver
<konimex>
or if there's pressure from the larger "fd.o" higher ups (e.g. red hat)
<testuser[m]1>
it works but its terrible cuz of nvidia's crap driver
<testuser[m]1>
clipboard pasting is broken, halts the program sometimes
<konimex>
GNOME already supports EGLStreams (iirc), so if they can pressure wlroots to do the same (via some "internal politics" like the master->main change) that'd be great since I don't need to buy an AMD GPU in these times
<illiliti>
eglstreams doesn't matter anymore
<illiliti>
konimex: it's impossible to support nvidia due to technical reason. wlroots devs often patches underlaying drm driver to fix some bugs. driver with closed source makes it impossible to do so
<illiliti>
moreover, nvidia actively sabotaging open source alternatives like nouveau by introducing signed firmware and shit like that
<illiliti>
they definitely don't want it open source
<illiliti>
redhat should pressure nvidia. i think they already do since nvidia implemented GBM
<konimex>
aye

Hey, all. Anyone have luck getting Guile running? Been fiddling with it for a few hours, but I'm getting weird errors at runtime.
<midfavila>
Fails to compile its definition for Scheme, which causes everything else to fail with "no such language scheme", despite Guile compiling just fine
