<badrbouslikhin[m> Hi, just wanted to thank you all for all the work on the Glasgow Explorer, it's worth the wait 🙂

<Elly[m]> you also forgot to mention we unplugged VCC line and connected SENSE to SPI VCC, then connected the power to the machine and powered the SPI flash from 5VSB from ATX PSU
<whitequark[m]> you're welcome
<whitequark[m]> do you like it?
<whitequark[cis]> Elly: that's a little terrifying
<whitequark[cis]> did it survive the 5VSB exposure?
<whitequark[cis]> oh, do you mean it was powered via some regulator that's itself powered from 5VSB?
<Wanda[cis]> yeah
<Wanda[cis]> and by "regulator" we mean "an entire ATX mobo"
<whitequark[cis]> makes sense
<whitequark[cis]> yeah, backpowering the motherboard via the flash is an issue
<whitequark[cis]> were you using a clip?
<Wanda[cis]> yes
<whitequark[cis]> oh! that explains why it was so unreliable
<whitequark[cis]> those clips only work like 30% of the time even if nothing weird is going on
<whitequark[cis]> I was using one a few days ago and I think it took like 5 attempts to get a read from a bare chip
<whitequark[cis]> maybe there should be a warning in the applet docs, lol
<Elly[m]> yeah, those clips are terrible, especially since it wasn't a Pomona - just a cheap crappy clone
<Elly[m]> on my devboards I tend to solder wires directly to the chip because clips drive me insane (even good quality ones), as well as cheap dupont wires (spent 2 hours debugging patch I added to flashrom only to find out that dupont wires were so low quality they ruined the signal integrity)
<Elly[m]> anywho, after playing with Ari's Glasgow I need to buy one for myself, just need to wait until I finish moving by the end of this month
<whitequark[cis]> rip
<whitequark[cis]> yeah, dupont wires and clips are awful. even the glasgow harness stops working above something like 25 MHz
<Elly[m]> <whitequark[cis]> "yeah, backpowering the motherboa..." <- Technically it shouldn't be an issue if manufacturer designed it correctly, I've seen HP and Supermicro put diodes in the VCC rail
<Elly[m]> s/in/on/, s/the//
<Elly[m]> Typically workstation/server motherboards with SPI debug headers have circuits designed for external flashing
<ari> ( having a glasgow always in my handbag is surprisingly useful. mostly to other people, but i'm not gonna complain :3 )
<badrbouslikhin[m> Yes! Having a tool like that in the lab is super handy. The software is really cool - I love how easy it is to jump in and use the existing applets. Haven't tried my hand at writing any yet. Maybe I'll give it a shot soon! I couldn’t find a GPIO applet.
<ari> (mind you, there were at least two other glasgows around)

<embeddedpenguin[> Is there any way to contact someone about my glasgow order?
<embeddedpenguin[> Order Placed on Dec 27, 2023, said waiting on fulfilment forever, now it says "actually shipped January 4" ???
<embeddedpenguin[> im an idiot
<embeddedpenguin[> disregard
<embeddedpenguin[> Ok not nvm, those dates were wrong BUT... (full message at <https://catircservices.org/_matrix/media/v3/download/catircservices.org/vWGAitxkpxQKURqZAMzUDzJj>)
<embeddedpenguin[> Progress on crowd supply: two items pending

<icb[m]> Does your order say Crowdfunding or pre-order? Crowdfunding ones have all been shipped (to Mouser/CS). Pre-order ones are still in progress
<embeddedpenguin[> Where would I see it? I don't see either
<icb[m]> July 2023 would mean pre-order, so you haven't been forgotten about
<embeddedpenguin[> just making sure, thx
<icb[m]> Crowdfunding orders show "Crowdfunding" in the "status" column on the order details page. Don't know what pre-order shows (if anything)
<embeddedpenguin[> ahh yea it says preorder
<embeddedpenguin[> longest preorder of my life lol

<icb[m]> The earliest crowdfunding orders were placed Dec 22, 2020. Mine shipped Oct 2023
<icb[m]> It may take time, but you'll get it
<icb[m]> Yours won't take that long, I'm sure
