<WhyNotHugo>
Why do terminal mappings use Ctrl+Shift+_? Are terminal applications incapable of handling this combintion? Or it's just a convention?

WhyNotHugo: terminal applications can handle those keys nowadays but that didn't use to be that case. I guess it's effectively a convention now, it's prudent for a program running inside a terminal to not use ctrl+shift keys, to not collide with the terminal
