SiFuh: did you ever solve the issue of mpv not forking completely when launched from inside Midnight Commander?
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: nope. If I launch mc from fluxbox menu using 'xterm -e mc' or 'xterm mc' and I open a video file with mc then mpv runs but if I close mc mpv also closes. If I open xterm from fluxbox menu and then manually type in mc and then get mc to launch a video with mpv then I close mc then it actually works.
<SiFuh>
That is as far as I got
<leah2>
makes sense, because the shell spawned by xterm becomes session leader?
<leah2>
closes in both cases here tho oO
<leah2>
running mpv ... & disown should work?
<SiFuh>
I can only find disown in zsh
<SiFuh>
And I don't like zsh
<leah2>
it works in bash
<leah2>
in zsh &! would be shorter ;)
<SiFuh>
2Heh
<farkuhar>
In scenario 2 you only close mc, but the parent process xterm is still running? Will mpv be destroyed if you also close xterm?
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: mpv will nto be destroyed if I close xterm
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: it's a genuine puzzle you've discovered here. Launching xterm mc from the fluxbox menu might be the key to reproducing the phenomenon. I wonder how ivandi was launching mc and its parent terminal emulator, in order to have a one-line alias fix the problem?

Aye, things is grim.

I just edited the source code of the game warmux because it kept referring to my characters as 'he' and I don't think it is very nice to have a game call my characters 'he' when they are all named after my former girlfriends
