<jaeger> Yeah, wouldn't hurt to add something to the handbook about both topics
<SiFuh> jaeger: I agree. Revdep should have a dedicated section because it is a hugely uselful tool
<jaeger> Yeah. I'll write something for that in the near future
<SiFuh> For the .la files that should be tried, trested and added as a side note for now.
<jaeger> Maybe prt-utils could have a script for rebuilding ports with missing .la files
<SiFuh> See if we can find a simple solution maybe your's or Romsters or someone elses. Maybe even a script/command
<groovy2shoes> or pkgmk could just delete .la files
<SiFuh> groovy2shoes: Yes but as tilman pointed out, some ports use *.la for plugins. Like my VLC port
<SiFuh> Maybe an option to NOT delete them?
<jaeger> I feel like deleting them entirely is a decision better left to upstream but I have not put a lot of thought into it
<SiFuh> For now, maybe a note with a commandline, until someone dedicates more time to it
<groovy2shoes> slackware has been deleting them for a few years now. i've been deleting them on crux for at least a year now.
<SiFuh> groovy2shoes: I was, but since latest update I don't. However, VLC needs them for now
<jaeger> Also simple to do on your own with a pkgadd rule if necessary
<SiFuh> I reckon delete them and add a Pkgfile rule for the maintainer NOT to delete them to be honest. And groovy2shoes is right in my opinion because most of the time they are no longer needed these days
<groovy2shoes> yeah, a package actually needing them is pretty rare. if vlc needs them, it'd be the only thing i know of that does.
<SiFuh> Couple of my ports use them like aircrack as well
<SiFuh> I am happy to add a non delete rule
<groovy2shoes> presumably la files for plugins would wind up in a special directory, no? not in top-level /usr/lib ?
<SiFuh> I think the groovy2shoes's majority rule is best way to handle it
<SiFuh> groovy2shoes: No but can be changed
<SiFuh> I think the maintainer should be soley responsible for keeping them
<SiFuh> Due to the scarcity of it
<SiFuh> Not efficent to have find "${PKG}"/ -name "*.la" -delete or whatever it is at the end of every port
<Stealth> hm
<Stealth> my server crashed recently
<Stealth> do you have the rsync command handy for mirror sync from the primary crux mirror?
<Stealth> jaeger: ↑↑
<SiFuh> I am wondering why very few of use git
<SiFuh> us* +use
<SiFuh> I find httup pretty bad. Rsync is good, but git pulls in so much faster and I haven't looked into it yet
<Stealth> also it seems there's a broken link in dir 3.4
<Stealth> rsync: readlink_stat("/crux-3.4/crux-3.5" (in crux)) failed: Too many levels of symbolic links (40)

<jaeger> If you wanted a full mirror, crux.nu::ports/ would be the endpoint
<jaeger> so something like rsync -az --delete crux.nu::ports/ /path/to/target/

<Stealth> jaeger: thanks, recovered it from my failed cron emails
<Stealth> it listed morpheus though
<Stealth> I changed it to crux.nu
<jaeger> morpheus.net is considered the "primary" and has the same contents
