<dlcusa>
SiFuh, ocb, anyone else interested: I have duplicated the xfce_4.16 signature mismatch problem though the pub file is what I expected. I'll keep digging...
<ocb>
:) thanks for the update!
<ocb>
i should really turn this internet off for 6 months
<ocb>
and go do something else
<dlcusa>
Wait, one can do things without the Internet?!
<ocb>
hard, but it makes life more interesting :)
<ocb>
i have no phone for 6 years. no phone at all.
<ocb>
and it was the best choice, together with removing tv from house :)
<dlcusa>
I knew I should have attached the ;-) or </sarc> tag.
<ocb>
;D
<ocb>
do you spend most of days on the internet?
<dlcusa>
The real world keeps interfering with my plans.
<ocb>
which is actually good
<dlcusa>
Except when it wrecks the plan (making it time to replan).
<ocb>
good for mental health, not to burn out
<ocb>
stay healthy!
<dlcusa>
At 72, that's no small feat.
<ocb>
oh, you're 72?
<dlcusa>
and a little over a month more. Actually, on the whole, I'm still fairly healthy.
<ocb>
oh! i haven't thought people of that age still irc :) you're hanging there well i suppose.
<dlcusa>
Once an IT specialist, always an IT specialist. What I do keeps becoming more mainstream all the time (I started in the glass rooms).
<ocb>
agree with that! ^
<ocb>
do you ever feel like you're enough a take 1-2 months of rest*
<ocb>
s/a/and
<dlcusa>
That's hard because there's always stuff that needs doing. The trick is is to have many areas of interest to keep an eye on.
<dlcusa>
SiFuh, for example, has many areas of interest.
<ocb>
will give it a try once i come back from break. until few years ago had no problems, but last 2-3 years need some breaks, 6 months ok - 1 month break or i burn out. and im only 26 :( that's why i admire how can you still handle it (and others of similar age) :) nice to meet you :)
<dlcusa>
Likewise.

I tried with xfce_4.16/exo and no others
<SiFuh>
Also tried your old xfce*14*pub file but same error
<SiFuh>
Just checked again, seems to be a siganture erro regardless of which *.pub file I download

guys, please don't kick LILO out from the next release... ;)
<SiFuh>
I'd prefer to kick LILO and GRUB out :-P
<SiFuh>
I doubt it will happen though
<SiFuh>
Seems a large portion of our beginners use LILO and it would be a shame to disolve it since it was part of the foundations
<stenur>
lilo was cool, i could understand it even as a Unix-no-knower coming via C64 over 4?DOS/Windows(3|95). grub is just terrible

:D
<ppetrov^>
i compiled my own LILO with Slackware's patches, so it works with nvme
z812 has joined #crux
<SiFuh>
I saw
<SiFuh>
But many of us don't use LILO
<SiFuh>
LILO is prepared only for beginners or habbit
<SiFuh>
Most use GRUB with UEFI support
<SiFuh>
And others like myself use other boot managers much ligter than both
<SiFuh>
It is your choice, and I doubt they will remove it to be honest
<ppetrov^>
that's all. If it gets removed, i'll adapt, np...
<SiFuh>
I check, but you are using LILO, UEFI or non-UEFI?
<SiFuh>
I see I stand by him
<SiFuh>
Sorry
<SiFuh>
It is an outdated piece of software
<SiFuh>
Nothing stop you from using the slackware version
<SiFuh>
Our distro is really free and open, and there are users that will help you
<ppetrov^>
LILO, non-UEFI. I have Linux on a conventional SSD and Windows on nvme
<ppetrov^>

for uefi, there's elilo, which I used on Slackware
<SiFuh>
You have nothing to worry about
<ppetrov^>
:)
<SiFuh>
If you want UEFI then you will need to adapte
<ppetrov^>
yep
<SiFuh>
All can be built on CRUX
<SiFuh>
I it is 100% your choice
<ppetrov^>
yes, that's one of the main things I like about the distro
<SiFuh>
No one cares or will or will judge you
<SiFuh>
All will help
<SiFuh>
Freedom here bro
<SiFuh>
There are some lilo/elilo users here
<SiFuh>
Lilo was chosen because it was light
<SiFuh>
Life changes
<ppetrov^>
> There are some lilo/elilo users here
<SiFuh>
Ask and wait
<ppetrov^>
there are dozens of us! dozens
<SiFuh>
I use syslinux
<SiFuh>
I think there are 2 of us hahah
<ppetrov^>
yes, I have already received help here, including help about building static binaries, which was extremely important
<SiFuh>
I know one who uses efimootmgr
<SiFuh>
And everyone else who is not a beginner are on GRUB
<SiFuh>
Static is great of you plan is logicaal
<SiFuh>
i got some static stuff
<SiFuh>
Mostly audi stuff
<SiFuh>
I am missing so many characters, that I suggest ignoring everything I said.
<ppetrov^>
emm..?
<SiFuh>
It is pretty bad and pretty shameful
<ppetrov^>
what characters are you missing?
<SiFuh>
Half the alphabet
<SiFuh>
Are you happy with your CRUX system?
<ppetrov^>
so far, it's just fine
<ppetrov^>
i got frustrated with the la files thing, but managed
<SiFuh>
Then shut the hell up, grow some balls, and stop your whining. :-P
<SiFuh>
You built a system, you can build again
<SiFuh>
You are educated
<SiFuh>
Yeah me and everyone else, but it is something we discussed and have scripts to solve.
<ppetrov^>
hmmm, i apologize of what I said up was interpreted as 'whining'. I just noticed someone mentioned Slackware's LILO, and since I had already done that, decided to post a link to the ports
<SiFuh>
Don't apologize
<ppetrov^>
about "please dont remove lilo", it was a joke
<ppetrov^>
i will cope if it gets kicked, np
<SiFuh>
Slackware is brilliant bro
<SiFuh>
Alien Bob did incredible work
<ppetrov^>
it is. and there was no release for 5 years and a half
<SiFuh>
I admire him a lot
<ppetrov^>
everybody does
<SiFuh>
Coming soon ;-)
<ppetrov^>
yes, 17th
<SiFuh>
I will download and install just to see
<SiFuh>
It is ancient perfection
<SiFuh>
I never meant you are whining
<ppetrov^>
it's fine, man :)
<SiFuh>
Seems i did
<SiFuh>
But it isn't what I mean
<SiFuh>
I am also a Slackware guy
<SiFuh>
Been using Linux sinve 1996
<ppetrov^>
i started in 2005
<SiFuh>
All the pro's are not pro's
<ppetrov^>
apwnt 9 months with rpm based distros, then installed slackware 10.1
<ppetrov^>
apwnt -> spent
<SiFuh>
Hahahah Madrake?
<ppetrov^>
no
<ppetrov^>
LBA Linux
<SiFuh>
Damn I did
<ppetrov^>
never heard of it, right?
<ppetrov^>
then the project dies and I went fedora
<SiFuh>
Not LBA
<SiFuh>
Hold on I remember and LB*
<SiFuh>
GIve me a year
<ppetrov^>
it was a Finnish distro
<ppetrov^>
before that it was called SOT linux or sth
<SiFuh>
Yeah I went from Caldera to CRUX in those days
<ppetrov^>
how much has CRUX changed since then?
<SiFuh>
Oh CRUX actually changed much
<SiFuh>
Started back pre 0.9X
<SiFuh>
But the built a foundation
<ppetrov^>
what is Per Liden doing now? Anybody knows?
<SiFuh>
Based around the init system and and a crap installation system witch was great by the way
<SiFuh>
Las I hear he is separated and working for Solaris.
<SiFuh>
Truth be told, he hated me
<ppetrov^>
oho, so you have spoken with him?
<ppetrov^>
what did you do, so he hated you?
<SiFuh>
I knew him very well
<SiFuh>
I worked in KKU and helped promote his product
<SiFuh>
KKU- Khon Kaen University
<ppetrov^>
ok
<SiFuh>
We didn't get along
<SiFuh>
That is truth
<SiFuh>
I have highest respect for him
<SiFuh>
Cannot say any negative about him
<ppetrov^>
heh
<ppetrov^>
well it happens
<SiFuh>
We didn't see eye to eye
<SiFuh>
But we saw what had the be
<SiFuh>
And to this day I will never be a full CRUX member out of respect for him

<SiFuh>
Best stick the experts
<SiFuh>
I cannot even take care of my own ports
<SiFuh>
I do a months update. The guys do daily updates
<ppetrov^>
yep
<ppetrov^>
when I maintained my SlackBuilds, I would submit an update every 6 months or so
<SiFuh>
Even the boost update scares me
<SiFuh>
Boost affects a large amount of ports

i know. I screwed some of my SlackBuilds

SiFuh, I agree with your observations. Somehow my signature process broke down and I am homing in on how the process went off the rails. While doing so many other things as well.
<ocb>
also using lilo, dont kick it :)
<ocb>
agh my screen scrolled, its something from earlier
<jaeger>
I think the only complaint about lilo and elilo is that neither is actively maintained anymore

upstream
