Hello...is there a way to use OpenCV w/ all their tutorials and samples on the BBAI? I am asking b/c I used to be able to install it and/or cross-compile it.
<set_>
Now...I am receiving an error of lack of memory.
<set_>
GenTooMan: I do not know how to use a USB Drive on the BBAI to support higher amounts of RAM or storage...
<set_>
I guess I will try that route.

Hello
<ABD>
Still looking for help installing the libraries
<rcn-ee>
ABD, Debian Stretch 9.x (which your using) was released in 2017, Debian Buster 10.x was released in 2020...
<ABD>
Ok.
<ABD>
Would like me to reinstall the Debian?
<rcn-ee>
ABD, feel free to do whatever you want... My guess, we have a mis-configuration in the stretch image you using, that we probally fixed long ago.. Thus use the latest snapshot..
<ABD>
Thank you..

<the_person48>
hi, if I have debian installed on a beaglebone black, rev C, on the onboard eMMC, what's the easiest way to transfer the whole OS over to a micro SD card?
<the_person48>
I know there's a line in /boot/uEnv.txt that allows flashing the eMMC from the SD card but I was wondering if there's some way to do the reverse?
giort has joined #beagle

<MP40>
how can I know the image version my BBB
<MP40>
What code will help me know that version on putty?
<the_person48>
are you able to SSH into the beaglebone via putty?
<zmatt>
MP40: cat /etc/dogtag
<zmatt>
the_person48: iirc there's a tool for that somewhere in /opt
<the_person48>
ok, do you know the name of the tool?
<MP40>
I tried it but I get the following msg " No such file or directory"
<zmatt>
MP40: then you're either not running a beagleboard.org image, or perhaps one that is prehistorically ancient
<rcn-ee>
cat /etc/dogtag should go all the way back to Angstrom. ;)
<rcn-ee>
MP40, try: uname -r
<zmatt>
well there ya go... so either not a beagleboard.org image or the file has been deleted for whatever reason
<MP40>
I have flashed the new image onto the MicroSD card and inserted it in the BBB. I pressed the reset buttom and supplied the power through my laptop.
<MP40>
Is there something wrong that I am doing?
<the_person48>
MP40 what does "uname -r" output
<rcn-ee>
the_person48, MP40 is flashing it, too late..
<the_person48>
how so?
<the_person48>
also zmatt do you know the name of the reverse-flashing tool in /opt?
<zmatt>
no but it had an obvious "you'll recognize it when you see it" name
<the_person48>
so run that script, then shutdown, then adjust that line via a card reader
<rcn-ee>
correct
<the_person48>
then boot
<the_person48>
awesome
<the_person48>
thanks
<the_person48>
I do not see that script in there
<the_person48>
I'm in /opt/scripts
<rcn-ee>
MP40, which image did you flash to the microSD with etcher..
<rcn-ee>
the_person48, still running stretch?
<the_person48>
what is stretch?
<rcn-ee>
sorry, another user... "git pull"... you might out of date..
<the_person48>
ok
<MP40>
AM3358 Debian 10.3 2020-04-06 4GB SD IoT
<MP40>
I have flashed the above image on SD card
<rcn-ee>
MP40, okay, so that'll just boot up off the microSD.. (and leave the eMMC alone)
<MP40>
what next?
<the_person48>
rcn-ee found it; it was in /opt/scripts/tools/eMMC
<rcn-ee>
MP40, then you boot off it, <something> , profit..
<rcn-ee>
MP40, what's your goal or todo?
<MP40>
I just want to flash the image on MicroSD card use that on my BBB and install the pyserial library.
<rcn-ee>
hum, i thought pyserial was installed by default... Sure just plug in the microSD and bootaway! ;)
<MP40>
The image version that I have is not allowing me to use the command 'sudo apt install python-pyserial'
<rcn-ee>
MP40, "what exactly is the error you see".?
<MP40>
E: Unable to locate package python-pyserial
<rcn-ee>
well, in debian; pyserial -> python-serial or python3-serial
<MP40>
python-serial
the_person48 has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<MP40>
I get the same error when i tried sudo apt install python-serial
<rcn-ee>
did you refresh the apt cache? 'sudo apt update' ?
<MP40>
No I will do that
<MP40>
All packages are up to date.

I get this after I use sudo apt update
<rcn-ee>
well there is a problem between your board and the internet.. are you using WiFi, Ethernet, or the usb cable?
<MP40>
I used the above commands in the same order as above
<the_person48>
rcn-ee the SD card flashing script seemed to work, then I commented out the last line in /boot/uEnv.txt, to disable eMMC flashing. then I booted while holding the user boot button with the SD card in
<the_person48>
is there any way to tell whether or not it worked?
<the_person48>
cause the OS should be on the SD card now but I'm not sure how to tell for sure
<the_person48>
my goal is to disable onboard eMMC, but I'm not sure if that will break everything if the SD card process didn't work for some reason?
<rcn-ee>
the_person48, well if it ran without errors, it worked..
<the_person48>
great
<rcn-ee>
besides booting with it, that's the easy way..
<the_person48>
rcn-ee great, so it looks like I just uncomment this line to disable eMMC?
<the_person48>
disable_uboot_overlay_emmc=1
<rcn-ee>
MP40, okay, dns is working now.. can you ping 'ping -c3 deb.debian.org'
<rcn-ee>
the_person48, that 'will' disable loading the eMMC overlay.. but depending on what board you have, it may do nothing, as it only works on specific eMMC memory..
<the_person48>
gotcha, I have a beaglebone black rev C
<the_person48>
is there another way to disable it on that one?
<rcn-ee>
the_person48, and with 8 years of production, there has been a lot of different eMMC's used..
<MP40>
rcn-ee 'ping -c3 deb.debian.org' is working as well
<rcn-ee>
easiest thing to do is to just zero it out with dd and ignore it..
<rcn-ee>
MP40, great your network is running, so "sudo apt update" should no work..
<rcn-ee>
MP40, great your network is running, so "sudo apt update" should now work..
<the_person48>
rcn-ee gotcha. well I was able to reboot after (possibly) disabling the eMMC, do you know if there's a way to check if disabling it worked? Or to check on the type of eMMC like you're talking about to see if it's compatible with the method I tried?
