<igorpec> armbian are people. If there is no voolonteer maintainer that follows minimal support standards, there is no "armbian support". Its just images that are floating around, made by random people, with unknown quality. We build those images https://github.com/armbian/community but if they work or not, nobody knows

<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> for armbian, ubuntu or debian makes no difference
<DC-IRC>
<igorpec> its just userland difference

<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> @k.s.bedford.jr Let me know what you think... I'm running a VF2 and a Star64 here... (with a lot of changes though)
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> the v2 is having a few issues I am running a update onit now

<tenkawa42> I will note don't expect much out of the video
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> It is a vey "underperforming" chip/gpu
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> It is a very "underperforming" chip/gpu
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> yeah I have been reading on things the video is still just basic
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> very
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I'm running 6.7-rc kernel on mine atm... It has some IO issues we are trying to research...
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> What media type do y ou run on?
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> What media type do you run on?
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> right now its on a sd 128g but I should have my ssd today
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I got a 256g
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> NVMe or Sata?
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> nvme
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Ok good
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I've tested I "think" 8 drives so far on it
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> the one thing I have issues is what usb wifi willl be best for it
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> as it does not have onboard
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I really like the TP Link AC one myself if you can get them

<tenkawa42> many people don't like Realtek BU's but I've had great luck out of that one
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ok
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> its this one
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I have a 64g emmc but its single side connector. I have not tried it yet
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> does the bl yet allow booting right from nvme or is there a special need to boot
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> mine has the fan/heatsync
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Those should give you all the info you need/software locations for updating
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ok
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> going over the update now
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> if you can... ues flashcp
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> safest and most reliable
<DC-IRC>

<k.s.bedford.jr> ok
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> my v1 has a network card issue . it has wifi on board and works but the ethernet port has a issue that been unable to fix
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I try to keep it alive to show it to friends
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> the v2 I am using for school and learning
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Oh.. btw you know about the VF2's eth issue right?
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ?

<tenkawa42> Check which board rev you got on the stamping
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> certain board revs only have one working gb port and the other is a 100mb
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> and one is just 2 100mb ports and I think the newest (1.3) I think both are gb I "think"
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> 1.2a is 1gb and 100mb
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> mine is 1.3
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> ok I "think" yours is fixed
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ok
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I bought it from Ameridroid
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> 6 months ago
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> my ssd and uart board should be here today it says out for delivery
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Ameridroid... the next best thing to Microcenter... (I'm in Microcenter's hometown.. it would be dangerous if they were both here)
hipboi has joined #armbian
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> yes . I have a few odroid boards the c2 and the c4
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> c2 sits on a shelf
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> as its got no os
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I have so many bosrds
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I have so many boards
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I've decided to stop working on anything except RPI and RISC-V
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> The rest is just a kludgey mess now
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I have 3 RPI5 coming soon
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I am going to collage online for Computer Sci and we are in the armhf/arm64 and riscv area
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> 2 should be here in the next week-2 (3rd is still unknown date)
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I looked at the 5 I was not impt\ressed with the fact they dont ship a heatsync/fan with it as it has been reported to overheat some
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> @k.s.bedford.jr I did I.T for my career... I'm just a hobbyist now
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> and they have yet to put onboard emmc header
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> not going to
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> too much cost addition
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ok
hipboi has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Sadly the part is inexpensive.. the board space... routing... and QA is not
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> the header is 55c
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> there are 2 diff headers you can ger 1 is a standoff
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> the othe is flat on the board
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> yeah but add space needed on the board thats not there... routing it through the circuit.. then quality assurance testing (thats the big hit)
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ok
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> well as I am on riscv mainly now for learning I have the vf2 and I am looking to get a thead board
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> not shure what one yet and what will be supported
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> thead would be nice but so hard to get them at cost as you know here in the states
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> yeah
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I am in knoxvill tn and we are becoming a tech place on the east coast and things are getting over costly here
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> hahaa one of my old friends if he's still there is in town there
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Yeah I was in Northwest Arkansas for a while.. we had some nice tech... (this was in 1997 though)
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Yeah I was in Northwest Arkansas for a while.. we had some nice tech... (this was in 1996-1997 though)
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ok well reading the page once I have my uart it should be easy to flash
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> and I can then also find out what ver it came with
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Yeah... "if" the image is compiled right you won't need the uart
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> cat /proc/mtd*
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> do you get anything back?
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> let me get the board and boot it
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I powered it off and put it in te drawer as class is about to start
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I will ping and let you know
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> today is about opensbi
<DC-IRC>
<k.s.bedford.jr> and starting the basics
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> if you get these back you can flash from nside
