[Discord] <gospod13337> I just now see that this is from 3.5.2023. is there anything new in this setup since then?

[Discord] <pookyfan> Stupid question: could using official Realtek's driver help me increase network performance? From what I read, generic RTL mainline kernel driver doesn't support multiple RX queues, while official driver (https://www.realtek.com/Download/List?cate_id=584) does, so it seems that with that official driver I may have increased network performance

[Discord] <mecoblock> Physically nothing has changed besides me utilising all sata ports (3xHDD 2xSSD) and that I've also confirmed that Bluray-Drives also work (on Desktop OS's). One thing I would’ve liked to know before is that the A55 on RK3568 single core performance isn’t fast enough for a BTRFS raid over smb (smb being the bottleneck)

[Discord] <menu> SMB will cause issues, is NFS not an option?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Not for day to day usage on my mac I think
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <menu> if you're on mac it's *much* faster than SMB
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> does macos support it? Haven’t looked much into setting it up on mac

<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <menu> it supports it natively, and has better performance, i can run you through setting it up later if you want
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Would appreciate that. If you know how to have it like smb in finder that would be perfect
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <menu> i do indeed, i'll do a writeup when i'm properly awake
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lanefu> I usually just disable it and install irqbalance.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lanefu> I've been able to run at least 2 gigs worth of routed iperf3 traffic over bonded lan1 lan2 across vlans.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lanefu> Balancing isn't always perfect but does okay
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <lanefu> Alternately you could tune the hardware-optimize script for the r5s and manually set the affinity
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> where can I find the script?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <pookyfan> Well the thing is that even after manually setting RPS so that the processing of LAN queue was spread on more cores than one, the bandwidth was sub-1G and rather unstable, so I was wondering if this is the only reason for slow LAN
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> I think that’s one part of the build system I've not looked into at all

[Discord] <.thenakedtruth> Any **OrangePi 4 LTS** users in here? If so, wondering if you have kernel `6.12+` running. For me it is broken. Stuck forever during boot with 6.12+.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <menu> @mecoblock working on a nice writeup now, will take a little while but i'll push it as a public gist and send the link when done
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> looking forward to it :)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Like menu said, go for nfs4.2
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> I was thinking of selling atleast one OPI5 and buy Rock 5b+, since it has 2 full size m2 slots for this (among 2,5gbe and more usb ports)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Im wondering if thats a bad idea since rock 5b+ is much newer and should that software wise make it more unstable or broken?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Its either that 5port sata on usb from aliexpress on opi5 and live with all stress that would come in the future from using usb>sata>multiplier, or native asm1166 and go through all brokeness of using a newer board
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Because im not comfortable with that 3d printed extender from m2 2242 to 2280
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Because im not comfortable with that 3d printed extender from m2 2242 to 2280 (native asm1166 m2 2280 on opi5)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Ill probably just yolo it and try rock 5b+ once for this
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Anything RK3588 is on the same level of maturity. I've made sure everything works when it comes to Rock5B+ and Armbian (with vendor kernel)
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> I am curious if that usb to multiple sata would even work as most m.2 usb controllers I know can only talk NVMe
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> As far as i understood, its first usb>single sata (JMS580), then sata pins on m2 are used onto JMB575 which gives 5 multiplied ports
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> On your multiplier, when a disk had problems, were others always left untouched?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Iow, were in anyway and anytime all disks in problems because of just one disk?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> Yeah but those need to be exposed to the client and when it comes to usb -> sata I've not seen anyone connect a port multiplier. Would be Interesting but also hinder raid usecases bc of the shared bandwith
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> One disk hasn't affected another in my setup.
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> You shouldnt say that 😄 now im again thinking that usb sata multiplier on opi5, since its only 15€ to try
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Only usb is left then, if maybe usb controller messes up some things when a disk has problems
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Ill buy both, usb sata multiplier and rock5b+ with asm1166 ! Yolo
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <mecoblock> tbf the only maybe corrupt thing I have is on an old NTFS drive (IkIk I'm working on decomissioning that drive.. someday) where some metadata files of a minecraft map throw io errors on that single drive. Anything else just works
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Reformat with ext4?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Why are u using ntfs on linux?
<DC-IRC>
[Discord] <gospod13337> Also what I kinda want is hotplug. Does hotplugging of drives work on your setup?
