<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gospod13337> Check armbian-config
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> my vulkan blob adventures have been rather frustrating so far, makes no sense at all when you have to patch half the universe
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> it was too cold today so i patched the sun , that's how this is right now
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> If you sell a decent number of Android TV boxes that, through years of free community work, will eventually become usable computers and you can't even provide an easy-to-use .deb for your closed source GPU drivers who work out of the box, that's pathetic
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> that's expected for TV box manufacturers tbh
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> time for vendors to invest cause we live in times where you can buy a n100 for less money as a rk3588
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> RockChip don't do open source anymore
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> every time i try to figure out what Rockchip is actually doing, i suddenly have to smoke twice as much
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it's genuinely bad enough to push me back to Intel
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> Has anyone tried the oracular images on RK3588? Not sure if I did something wrong but couldn’t get them booting on multiple devices while debian trixie works
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> tbf I don’t get that statement (wasn’t it also just a rumor?). Maybe it was only one project and then got mistranslated since the kernel is still open source. Their SDK‘s usually get published by vendors too and other projects like mpp / libmali and stuff get updated too
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it's a case of no *further* support, i.e. they're no longer even attempting to get mainline support, you get what you get and you'll damn well like it
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> did they ever actually try though in the last couple of years? And after collabora picked up the work they’re probably thinking why should we do that if someone else does it for "free"
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> Unfortunately, it's not that easy, especially if you design your marketing in such a way that you offer it with Vulkan support, which alone violates countless marketing rights
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> It's so obviously well invested in false marketing than in providing the necessary software from day one that you have to expect that Stevie Wonder, who is known to be blind, will make a song about
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> not sure about vendor own images but vulkan more or less does work
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> No not really because we need Android kernel hacks, patching WSI layer, patching vulkan tools, patching vkmark this is in no way easy for normal users to follow
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> Apart from the fact that you also have to build against the current build standard with the great mesa-vpu extension, that's so far just bad
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> Clown party
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <mecoblock> android kernel hacks okay not great but I thought wsi layer and the rest doesn’t need to be patched?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> Could live with adding a sytemwide env to use panvk , not sure if it's wore to write a extension just for vulkan blob
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <doofin000> Are there any comparable arm soc like 3588 with mainline kernel support?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <doofin000> Are there any comparable arm soc like 3588 with mainline kernel support? I'm using 3588 and seeing lots of customized kernels
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> btw mesa vulkan support is usually easy to get by installing mesa vulkan drivers and not having to patch half the universe
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> wayland blob seems broken as well as the all in one blob , they get paid and still got grabe software
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> wayland blob seems broken as well as the all in one blob , they get paid and still got garbage software
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> a MC Donald burger got higer quality tbh
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> i don't know, i believe it's something that's more likely with ARMv9 platforms
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <c133> well that's awkward
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <c133> (partition is 372GiB, should be big enough)
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it's clearly unable to get the size of the partition, i'd be surprised if it's even selected the right partition
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <c133> which is bizarre because right before this failure I see:
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> there *should* be error-handling for this, but it's not been implemented properly yet
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> bruh someone has a serious answer before you can make the popular South Park so small joke , damn
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> the install scripts range from wobbly to outright broken at the moment, hopefully someone more familiar with the specific platform can chime in
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> Once again it's the community that puts a lot of effort into making the incredibly poorly programmed closed source blob usable. That's clown fiesta party deluxe. For my part, I'm just now taking a two-week vacation from this miserable bad Rockchip SBC
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> mine is unplugged and on my desk until i've got somewhere better to live
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> got one with a nice huge touch screen and use it to play switch games on it but sadly can't use Linux with this right now
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> dual booting Android for using Vulkan and Armbian to use the touch screen rk3588 as desktop with could flash the emmc with Armbian meh
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> dual booting Android for using Vulkan and Armbian to use the touch screen rk3588 as desktop, could flash the emmc with Armbian meh
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> Mine is also unplugged, it was semi fun
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> I'll probably sell it. They are griefing at high levels
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> Got proper arm the other day, M1 pro
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> Life is good
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <monkablyat> selling rk3588 seems not a bad idea. i have to calculate how many delicious döner kebab's you could get
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> Lol that's not even food
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> But mine is special see, it's either genius or jank.
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> The screws weren't long enough to mount the fan on the case
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> And I'm not sourcing longer screws 🙂
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> my oPi had a bobble holding the NVMe in for... four months?
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> That's jank 🙂
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <gambl0r> But yeah I did end up having to remove a BT card from an old laptop to get the screw for the nvme
<DC-IRC> [Discord] <menu> it worked fine 😎
