ifreund changed the topic of #river to: river - a dynamic tiling wayland compositor || https://github.com/riverwm/river || channel logs: https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/river/
<ifreund> Nulo: hmm, thanks for the backtrace
<ifreund> that seems to be something interal to wlroots though at first glance
<ifreund> river doesn't listen for the wlr_seat destroy signal

<chipps> Hey guys, bit of a weird problem here. I installed a new gpu, but river is not detecting the monitor that's connected to the new gpu, and is displaying stuff on the monitor that's connected to the motherboard directly.
<chipps> what's going on here?

<ecocode__> You probably need to tell wlroots which GPU to use
<ecocode__> There is an environment variable for that, beginning with WLR_ but you will need to search Google for the rest of it

<chipps> well that problem was not really resolved, so I just nuked my entire system and started over. 24h later, I have a working system, yay
<novakane> that's a way to solve problem I guess, a bit extrem but if it works lol
<chipps> novakane: at some point, you run out of patience, and I'm thankful that atleast I didn't destroy my hardware
<chipps> seriously, fuck nvidia
<novakane> chipps: yeah I don't blame you I'm the kind of guy nuking his system just to clean up some old config so :P
<novakane> and yeah nvidia and wayland...
<elshize> I second the nvidia sentiment. the amount of work I had to put in to get river running on my work laptop is ridiculous.
<elshize> and there's still a lot of tearing all the time
<novakane> maybe one day it will be good, who know with close source

<elshize> novakane: I just wish I wasn't given an nvidia card; but I just don't need a beefy gpu for anything really
<novakane> elshize: yeah it sucks when you can't chose, even more when you don't need a good gpu, which is often the case for a laptop
<elshize> novakane: I mean, I feel like a company distributing laptops to their developers with linux preinstalled should know better than to get nvidia cards; but maybe I expect to much
<elshize> especially if that company owns redhat lol
<novakane> lmao right it would makes sense, but making sense never happened in any works
<elshize> oh well, I'm just glad that I can use river tbh, even if it's tearing; or even to use linux at all. I was on an internship once and they made me work on a mac, that was torture, I couldn't get anything done, had to work on a VM; so yeah, some perspective ;)

<chipps> I have noticed a bit of screen tearing and freezeups on nouveau drivers for river. I wonder if it's a river thing or a nouveau thing. I'm using proprietary nvidia drivers rn, and it seems to work a bit better
<chipps> has it been the case for any of you guys?
