<novakane> ifreund: hmm FWIW I just found that if I launch river in a new tty instead of a nested session I don't have the sefgault, I don't know why but maybe it helps

<leon-p> found a design-bug: when you have floating views and tiled views and then switch to using no layout generator (either by killing it or by setting a nonesense namespace), floating views are still rendered above tiled, despite both now actually floating.
<leon-p> not all that bad, but a bit inconsistent considering I intended "float mode" to not have two different kinds of views
<leon-p> also not worth fixing I guess, since if we do update the protocol to give layout gens more power, river probably will no longer have that logic anyway

<Guest23> Hello there!
<Guest23> I'm a beginner to river
<Guest23> I want to know how to disable borders
<Guest23> or have double borders
<Guest23> None or two
Guest23 is now known as usernotfound
<leon-p> Guest23: riverctl border-width 0
<usernotfound> And how about double borders?
<leon-p> that is not something river supports
<usernotfound> So would it would require some sort of hack for it to work
<leon-p> usernotfound: it would require you to open an editor and program it yourself to work
<usernotfound> leon-p: I see, thank you for your help and response!

<helby> Hey, it was refreshing to find river exist ;/
<helby> If I wound to somehow control turn on/off display is there only way to use external tool like wlr-randr command? Can't river do it?
<leon-p> helby: river outsources all output management to external programs, yes
<helby> good ;/

<helby> doas any order how all command are executed matter in init file at start? Or all of them works whenever they are executed?
<helby> Also if I don't set anything in init or other way, is it set/inherited from default installed init /etc/river/init or it is just don't set at all?
snakedye has joined #river
<ifreund> helby: river only ever runs one init executable which it searches for at ~/.config/river/init or $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/river/init
<ifreund> or somewhere else if you use -c
<ifreund> if no init executable is found and -c is not passed, then river doesn't run anything by default
<helby> thanks, really enjoying it, just heard about it yesterday an running it in alpine and works great ;/
<ifreund> nice :)

<helby> is there a way to make window focused just by hower? not actuall selecting/clicking on it or with key bind?
<elshize> helby: you're looking for focus-follows-cursor (see https://github.com/riverwm/river/blob/master/doc/riverctl.1.scd#configuration)
<helby> oh shit, nice ;/
<helby> thanks

<Nulo> leon-p, I was thinking something like word suggestions (smartphone/MacBook bar style) would be interesting
<norkki> is it possible to have to cursor automatically move to the focused monitor when using mod+(, .)?
<Nulo> norkki, check out riverctl's man page (set-cursor-wrap on-output-change)
<norkki> Will do once I'm on the pc, thanks!
<norkki> I also had something else on my mind but I forgot

<norkki> I really like that hot plugging monitors to a laptop just works, unlike on Xorg.
<waleee> a related question, what you use on wayland to automate monitors going to sleep after X time?
<elshize> waleee: I use swayidle + swaylock + wlopm (respectively for: timeout, lock, monitor turn off/on
<elshize> swayidle -w timeout 900 "swaylock -f -c 222222" timeout 900 "wlopm --off '*'" resume "wlopm --on '*'"
<elshize> you can mix and match, e.g., not lock it or lock it after a longer time
<waleee> elshize: thanks
<norkki> I know this is not related to river and more like xwayland, but whenever I try to play osu! using xwayland and wine the fps is low and there is major input latency. there is currently an open issue here https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/1103 but I really didn't get the fix they used
<norkki> I hope this is allowed here, if no I won't ask this here
