<anb1> Hello, I'm having a really strange bug, that after unplug the external monitor, my mouse pointer "disappears" on laptop's screen, I can still see events, like tooltip for instance if it hovering on something. Any idea on how to debug this?
<ifreund> anb1: does switching to a different tty and back fix it? I think I've seen wlroots bug reports mentioning a disappearing cursor
gwizon has joined #river
<anb1> It didn't.
<anb1> Found the issue report on wlroots, will follow updates there, thank you.
<ifreund> no problem, I'm not that familiar with the low level DRM rendering code in wlroots sadly :/
leon-p has quit [Quit: leon-p]
<anb1> BTW, a quick question, what's the setting to slide cursor from one output to another? Not sure if my setup is incorrect, that the mouse cursor cannot be moved to another output without keyboard shortcut.

<ifreund> anb1: if your outputs are configured to be adjacent then you can move the cursor across the edge between them
<ifreund> you might want to use a visual configuration client like wdisplays to help figure out what output configuration you want
<anb1> Thanks for confirming, I guess somehow I have incorrect configuration.

<n8_> anyone else unable to build the AUR package?
<ifreund> n8_: which AUR package? If you're trying to build river-bin know that that package shouldn't exist and try plain "river" instead
<ifreund> I don't use arch anymore though so all I can do is troubleshoot from afar

<ifreund> wow, that's a pretty in depth overview :)
<ifreund> > All you will see is a solid wall of #002b36, making you feel like river stares directly into your soul, judging your very essence. You can not hide. River sees all.
<ifreund> love it
<leon-p> :D
<waleee> lol, "... civilized person ... light theme"
* waleee prefers to speak "barbar" then
<waleee> leon-p: great article
<leon-p> thanks. it's not finished though, still have to populate a few more headings with text and pictures

<dnkl> leon-p: nice! Looking forward to the finished article :)
<dnkl> Thanks for all the mentions, btw
<ifreund> thanks for all the software :P
<novakane> thats some really in depth article wow, just look quickly through it though, I want the pleasure to read all at once
<novakane> ifreund: doesn't looks like valgrind help me too for the segfault in the IME PR :(
<ifreund> novakane: what valgrind output do you get?
<Ollie[m]> leon-p: really nice!
<novakane> ifreund: you want to see the log?
<ifreund> yeah, valgrind is often a lot more helpful than gdb for stuff like this
<novakane> ifreund: it is like 2 million lines though lol
<novakane> tell me if you want some command with a smaller output
notzmv has joined #river
<waleee> novakane: you didn't joke about the length, the firefox tab choked a bit when jumping to the end
<novakane> waleee: yeah I check like 3 times that it was million I thought I was crazy lmao
<ifreund> woah, that is insanely long
<novakane> I know yeah, never saw that
<ifreund> 133 MiB of text wft
<ifreund> kakoune can handle it though ^^
<novakane> haha I was going to say I didn't saw it was that long when I opened it in kakoune the first time :P
<ifreund> seems to me that gallium is leaking tones of memory, or at least valgrind thinks it is
<novakane> I don't even what gallium is
<novakane> know*
<ifreund> it's part of mesa
<novakane> oh okay weird
<ifreund> nice, kakoune let me get the file down to 150k lines
<ifreund> now everything is fast to search again
<emersion> perhaps a better link is https://docs.mesa3d.org/gallium/index.html
<emersion> the intro is a bit terse, as expected
<ifreund> that "What is Gallium?" page is nice and concise :)
<novakane> emersion: thanks, I get the general idea at least
<emersion> it's missing a few keywords
<emersion> like OpenGL, state-tracker, and so on
<emersion> also frontend/backend
<emersion> oh well
<novakane> more like a lot of words than a few then haha
<emersion> :P
<novakane> ifreund: so anything interesting in this just small 150k lines?
<ifreund> novakane: didn't learn anything new, I probably need to run things locally here and poke around in the memory with gdb
<novakane> ifreund: allright, thanks for looking at it anyway, if you want to make some test I use https://github.com/tadeokondrak/anthywl and just run in foot, that when it segfault
<ifreund> cool, thanks
<leon-p> I wonder if input methods have other use cases than non-latin language input
<novakane> it works in sway, if I run anthywl in foot and then type 'tu' I have asian character so I guess it comes from my implementation but I can't find why
<novakane> leon-p: well a part for emoji I don't see what you could use it for
<waleee> steganography by emoji?
<leon-p> maybe a global spell checker? I might take a look at the protocol to see what kind of fun you can have with it
<emersion> yeah you could do that
<emersion> also OSKs\
<ifreund> password manager?
<emersion> that too, yeah
<emersion> to some extent
<novakane> probably would be a bit hard with the state of IME support is currently in wlroots/wayland no?
<emersion> should be fine
<emersion> but help is welcome to improve the protos
<novakane> yeah I'll try making the current protocols works for river first though :P
