<peeps[work]>
ah yeah. i remember writing that shim
<J24k14>
( they didn't asked for modification but i thought the old version was made too lazy)
<peeps[work]>
shouldn't be necessary outside of thingiverse's ancient openscad (or didn't they at least upgrade past 2015 release at some point? i can't remember what version they are on)
<InPhase>
peeps[work]: Yeah. It looks like carried-over code from thingiverse days.
<J24k14>
bambu (makerworld) running a nightly WASM

Also, I last remember encountering that script in much smaller form in 2022, before it got this textmetrics update.
<J24k14>
they still have some problems with the fonts - the emoji running on noto emoji but the text fonts like "4 points" are not and the code seems to be buggy there
<peeps[work]>
probably they just sorted most popular thingiverse customizers
<peeps[work]>
bambulab actually supposedly has a US location here in Austin, i wonder if they are hiring
<J24k14>
as they approached me - and i am not on thingy .. But they copied Prusa (there were some "twitter" for J.Prusa about them not beeing fair)
<J24k14>
something along getting user transfer printables to makerworld ( like printables took thingiverse models)

peeps[work]: It's possible that's a distribution branch and not a development branch, but given your location and your unique qualifications, it doesn't hurt to ask.
<peeps[work]>
yeah i kinda figured it was something like that
<J24k14>
in the interview the boss said they having many more software dev than tech engineer
<J24k14>
and you probably can work from home as BambuStudio is also on git
<J24k14>
can someone confirm that the alt+arrow or scroll doesn't work if emoji are used like for the size in »text("💕",size=12);« while this works »text(size=12,"💕");«
<J24k14>
oh and the alt+scroll only counts up not down
<teepee>
last one has an issue IIRC

teepee when i try to increment numbers after emojis it doesn't work if the curser is between and if after it makes very weird things like deleting the bracket and adding huge numbers.
<J24k14>
( just found there are fonts like symbola or noto emoji that can display emoji
<teepee>
I think there's some regex checking if the cursor position is eligible for the up/down
<teepee>
probably getting confused by multi-byte unicode

peeps[work]: I wanted to add that you never really know a work environment until you're on the inside, but it sounds like that might be a solid CEO to work for, with an overall favorable mindset about things. And I can imagine you being happy doing work like that. Also I think you're very qualified for such work, and so even if they're not typically hiring developers for Austin, a smart CEO will make
<InPhase>
an exception for someone like you and just issue some orders to make it work out.
<InPhase>
Also it would be good for the project to have active people paid for direct or at least closely related work. :)
<InPhase>
That last bit is my self-interest component disclosure.
<InPhase>
It'd be different if they had no HR setup in the US, but if they're already paying a non-zero number of people under an Austin tax structure, most of the burden is handled. The rest is "can you remote communicate" and "can the other programmers speak English" (which is almost a standard job requirement these days, so probably yes, at least most of them).
