<peepsalot>
spent like 3-4 hours last night trying to remember a weird mechanism that i read about years ago. finally stopped searching for a bathroom break and immediately remembered the name
<InPhase>
J2231: Well, positioning of the roller axes would do the same, but with some difference in how it responded to applied forces.
<InPhase>
J2231: Oh, I suppose there are no axles needed on the belt version.
<InPhase>
Which is probably a key part in friction reduction.
<J2231>
and also what limits the usability as for most things you need to add bearings and axles to mount a gantry
<InPhase>
Perhaps there is an advantage when you don't want to depend on the multi-decade longevity of a lubricant.
<J2231>
in vacuum maybe .. also the surfaces need do be very clean to get this working. I can't see how you will drive the roller without adding bearings, and using pneumatic would require to seal the sides which is impossible

so we still need 12 scadvent designs ? .. and the https://files.openscad.org/85e… link is public accessible with all doors but i assume nobody has that link
<InPhase>
Oh right, scadvent. Thanks for the reminder.
<InPhase>
Someone should also announce it on the mailing list. We got some last year that way.
<J2231>
2 weeks Ü
<InPhase>
I have one to add right away that I can toss up tonight if I don't get too sidetracked.
<J2231>
teepee got some from twitter iirc
<InPhase>
I had one I've been daydreaming about, but I don't know quite how to implement it.
<InPhase>
My imagination slightly outpaced what I know how to do, but it is probably possible.
<InPhase>
I would need to plan out some clever math.
