<InPhase> J22: Yeah, the bagel looks like scene from a movie where somebody is tripping or in a dreamscape.
<InPhase> s/like scene/like a scene/
<J22> but apply some filter should bring brightness and saturation down

<Odino> Good morning everyone!
<Odino> do you have an explanatory example on how to dynamically underline a text in openscad?
<Odino> I can't find anything functional around.
<Odino> obviously after extruding it in 3D
Odino has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<Junxter> underline the wholething with thin cube, then mask front and back excess
<Junxter> make the mask from sub string before and after the desired underline portion, hulling the text, and nudge it abit
Odino has joined #openscad
<teepee> Odino: dev snapshot has functions for asking text sizes
<teepee> otherwise you could project the 3d text back to 2d and use that
<Odino> Ok I just installed but it crash immediately after launch 😢
<Odino> I must use the last stable version...

<peepsalot> spent like 3-4 hours last night trying to remember a weird mechanism that i read about years ago. finally stopped searching for a bathroom break and immediately remembered the name
<peepsalot> i wanna see a printer axis use that
<peepsalot> also kinda weird how much hype there was around it at the time, but today it seems like its hardly used in any application
<teepee> never heard that name before

<peepsalot> apparently it was first used in nuclear bombs as some kind of electrical switch
<peepsalot> probably the most detailed description of variations and applications is on this page http://www.rexresearch.com/wilkes/1wilkes.htm

<J2231> i read about these but since linear rails got better there is not much use for them

<Scopeuk> peepsalot it looks fun finally similar to how some of the home brew CNC stuff works https://i.pinimg.com/564x/ff/0f/93/ff0f93cbe53860766b4697bbd46ecdd5.jpg obviously it's not exactly the same
<InPhase> peepsalot: I wonder what the longevity is. Metal foil under repeated bending might not last too long.
<InPhase> peepsalot: It'd be nice if you could omit the foil.
<InPhase> I suppose the foil adds some stability though.
GNUmoon has joined #openscad
<InPhase> Scopeuk: A similar principle there. Wrap-around for a more distributed grip.
<InPhase> That's going to require very careful alignment though to keep the teeth in phase.
<J2231> the special thing on rolamite is that the tension of the belt presses the roller onto the surface. It only works with this foil/belt  ..
<gbruno> [github] t-paul pushed 2 modifications (Update banner to snow mode and link to Advent Calendar.) https://github.com/openscad/openscad.github.com/commit/65cce5448e53f596babf6b3d2f78764f2c5d2c37
<teepee> :)
<InPhase> J2231: Well, positioning of the roller axes would do the same, but with some difference in how it responded to applied forces.
<InPhase> J2231: Oh, I suppose there are no axles needed on the belt version.
<InPhase> Which is probably a key part in friction reduction.
<J2231> and also what limits the usability as for most things you need to add bearings and axles to mount a gantry
<InPhase> Perhaps there is an advantage when you don't want to depend on the multi-decade longevity of a lubricant.
<J2231> in vacuum maybe .. also the surfaces need do be very clean to get this working.  I can't see how you will drive the roller without adding bearings, and using pneumatic would require to seal the sides which is impossible

<J2231> so we still need 12 scadvent designs ? .. and  the https://files.openscad.org/85e…  link is public accessible with all doors but i assume nobody has that link
<InPhase> Oh right, scadvent. Thanks for the reminder.
<InPhase> Someone should also announce it on the mailing list. We got some last year that way.
<J2231> 2 weeks Ü
<InPhase> I have one to add right away that I can toss up tonight if I don't get too sidetracked.
<J2231> teepee got some from twitter iirc
<InPhase> I had one I've been daydreaming about, but I don't know quite how to implement it.
<InPhase> My imagination slightly outpaced what I know how to do, but it is probably possible.
<InPhase> I would need to plan out some clever math.
<InPhase> If by "Start new project" you mean open a file and add some comments, then this has been the strategy so far!
<J2231> so now i am intrigued what your mind has imagined .. and will bother you until ready Ü
<InPhase> I will message you to avoid spoiling for everyone, just in case I succeed.

<Scopeuk> its visible from files but it just dumps you to a holding page
<teepee> yes, would be too easy otherwise :)
<teepee> Scopeuk: I see you are not in the list for the calendar, let me know if you want to give it a try with a design or two :)
<Scopeuk> I shall let you know if I come up with anything worth sharing
<J2231> the link i have show you the content and let you download the designs ... btw teepee in your MB i got a warning from a zero size cube
<J2231> (these warnings don't exist in 2021 afaik)
<teepee> oh, strange, I have to check that
<J2231> z=0
<teepee> yeah, I thought I checked against those cases
<teepee> ah, no the checks are for max-iter
<teepee> ah, nice
