<InPhase>
J22: I did not. My youngest probably needs approximately another year before he's ready for that type of game.
<InPhase>
J22: Or rather, he could make the full circles now, but he wouldn't be making the associations yet. So it's more meaningful to introduce it as a novel thing at a slightly older age.

<J22>
but using a dice and choosing the parts should work .. learning is not so much about understanding, it is about getting familiar with something
<InPhase>
J22: I did download it in December, so it's in my files, but no point printing it and losing it before he's ready. It might be a good Christmas 2022 present. :)
<J22>
important is that he has fun playing .. and hey took me lot longer to understand some connections in mathematics
<J22>
think about how kids learn how to speak .. they doesn't wait until they are ready .. they get ready by hearing their parents talk
<J22>
so this can work the same way you play and without understanding the other numbers - you just notice them (unconsciously) and you brain will form the connection that 120 and ⅓ and 20 and that shape are somehow connected
<InPhase>
Agreed. I've just been watching his number literacy closely, and he's still doing things like writing 120 as 10020, so it can't connect up quite yet.
snaked has joined #openscad
<J22>
he is probably already using some complex number system you don't understand - Ü
<InPhase>
He's been working with the calendar in the past few months, and that solidified the 2 digits for him. So he's getting there. He's very sharp, but the Covid preschool gap slowed his exposure to some of the things he would have gotten from the good preschools we were trying to keep him in.
<J22>
there are probably worldwide suffering for these generations - i mean without learning we are just animals , and if we would break that process for just one generation we would need to start from zero and like middle ages
<InPhase>
Yeah. I think we really underappreciated the collective global harm that the education gaps of the past two years have caused.
<InPhase>
It's an effect we'll probably experience in some manner across the next 70 years.
<J22>
maybe the social harm and impact is even bigger
<J22>
and with alexa and robotics or AI this is getting worse ( read some terrifying studies about brain development with tech)
<InPhase>
I started getting job applicants who explain aspects of their resume in terms of how Covid impacted part of their college years.
<J22>
sounds like they feel that they need an excuse for something or?
<InPhase>
Well yeah, basically learning less in certain areas, or achieving less on standardized projects that used to be part of curricula.
<InPhase>
But what can you do? That's basically the expected result of the situation they were put in.
<InPhase>
I had multiple work projects delayed too, it just wasn't an education gap for me where I am at in my process.
<teepee>
argh, and CGAL breaks compilation too :(
<InPhase>
Maybe without Covid I'd have one extra paper published, but I can recover from that.
<J22>
this pressure to archive / perform is not healthy - i remember how pupils reacted when i explained them that marks are adaptive and relative and not absolute (7th grade)
<J22>
and while for us the 2 years are just time - for everybody under 25 the 2 years are important brain development that can't be brought back

did you end up reverting the mxe containers?

i didn't realize builds were failing because of it, but I see the latest commit to master passed

How do I calculate this? [2,2,2]*[2,2,0] == [4,4,0]
ur5us has joined #openscad
<rvt>
since multiplication of two vectors result in a number I am not sure here what to do...
<teepee>
can we assume the length of both is always the same?
<teepee>
pmult = function (a, b) [ for (i = [0:len(a)-1]) a[i] * b[i] ];
<rvt>
yeaa, it’s just for doing stuff like this : translate(-dimension*[0.5,0.5,0]) so I can cemter easy…
snakedGT has joined #openscad
<InPhase>
I do think the long-ago design decision to make that a dot product instead of a pointwise multiplication was a design error. But, it's baked in now.
<rvt>
happens to the best...
<rvt>
we just figured out today that processes on our server do not get restarted because kubernettes keeps changes hostname (DB keeps hostname…)….. for over 9 months :D
<teepee>
oops :)
<teepee>
yeah, all that automation stuff is nice and magic... until it isn't
<rvt>
when it was designed it was assumed that hostname will stay the same (old VM’s…) sooo yeaa….
<teepee>
causing crazy stuff like "curl $URL | bash" to become common
<teepee>
InPhase: for some strange reason, I want to add those xkcd color names :)
<InPhase>
teepee: They are compellingly good labels, with a few non-professional names thrown into the mix.
<teepee>
I just wonder if it's "xkcd:blurple" or some magic value like the existing # for hex values
<InPhase>
Well there are probably collisions with the existing words.
<InPhase>
Otherwise we could just use it straight out. But probably best to not change people's design colors retroactively.
<teepee>
yep, just mixing is probably not working, I did not check, but I assume the values are different in some cases
<teepee>
I suppose using web colors as official defaults still makes sense :)
<teepee>
it's more a "fun" thing to have I guess
<InPhase>
Or the web should convert to xkcd as the official web standard.
<teepee>
easter egg for the whole year
<InPhase>
But yeah, I think xkcd:... should work.
<teepee>
ok, I'd vote for that
<InPhase>
It introduces color namespaces for future potential if people want to get really serious about it someday.
<teepee>
right, not so obscure as @....
<InPhase>
Also, it doubles as attribution and a hint of where to look for the available color choices when someone sees it in existing code.
<InPhase>
When I google xkcd:blurple google sends me to the right place.

that should be fine, I did not change the MXE build part, only add back the base image nsis for debian

do you run/test windows builds at all yourself? or no computer running it?
HannoBraun[m] has joined #openscad
<teepee>
sometimes via wine, but only if there's specific changes that indicate there could be some issue
<peeps[zen]>
ok, not sure if CPack's nsis installer will work exactly as before, but I did at least test that the install puts the files in the right place. (it might not be adding the program to start menu, it was getting confusing since I already have a couple versions there)
<peeps[zen]>
there's probably some other tweaks we might want, like include build date in the default install path for nightlies. i think it just suggests "C:\Program Files\OpenSCAD", but can be modified by the user of course
<peeps[zen]>
The installer has an additional page where you have to agree to the license ( /COPYING file). previous installer did not do that either
